Creation of energy exchange in Turkey to regulate electricity price 2012-07-20

Creation of energy exchange in Turkey to regulate electricity price

Creation of an energy exchange will stabilizes the price of electricity in the country, and contribute to regulation of prices on imports and exports of electricity, chairman of the Turkish National Company for electricity trade (TETAS) Haci Duran Gokkaya said.

"The energy exchange of Turkey will provide data on the prices for electricity in real time. Thus, manufacturers and consumers will have accurate data about prices and electricity production," he said.

He as well noted that only Turkish companies, producers and consumers of electricity will be presented at the exchange in the first stage. Then the participation of nations that are part of European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) is possible.

ENTSO-E - is an organization established in July 2009 and uniting the electrical network of associations ATSOI, BALTSO, ETSO, NORDEL, UCTE and UKTSOA, which aim is to ensure reliable operation, optimal control and the development of European electricity transmission system in order to ensure energy security and meet the needs of the internal energy market.

Agreement on the establishment of energy exchange in Turkey was signed between national-owned Turkish Electricity Transmission (TEİAŞ) and the European Energy Exchange on July 6.
