    ITALY, 2014/03/31 The recurring insecurity at Tripoli international airport in Libya has forced Italian airline, Alitalia, to suspend, until the end of March, its flights to and from Libya, the director of the Libyan Civil Aviation, Nasser Eddine Chaib al-Ain, announced here Thursday. Rockets hit the major runway of the airport, resulting in the suspension of all flights for additional than six hours. Following this incident, Libyan civil aviation authorities diverted all flights to the military airport in Tripoli and the civilian airport of Misrata.

  • Malawi airport closed because of potholes

    MALAWI, 2014/03/18 Chileka International Airport in Malawi's commercial capital, Blantyre, has been closed indefinitely because its major runway is littered with potholes, the Department of Civil Aviation has announced. 'We have alerted all airlines that there will be restricted landing at the airport because of major repair works on the major runway,' Transport Minister Ulemu Chilapondwa said on sunday. Chilapondwa said two potholes developed on the major runway and the Department of Civil Aviation hired a contractor to fill them. 'But what we discovered is that because of the consistent heavy rains there is major damage underneath so much that once one pothole is filled an extra develops instantly,' he said.

The donation was made at a ceremony chaired by the Malian Minister of Equipment and Transport, Gen. Abdoulaye Koumaré, and held at the Sénou Bamako air base. Ambassador of the EU to Mali Richard Zink as well attended the ceremony.

The project, which is aimed primarily at strengthening the port's competitiveness, will allow third generation ships to access the port.
