The number of mobile phone subscribers in the world has reached five billion, according to the research arm of the world mobile industry organization, GSMA. But sub-Sahara Africa is the least penetrated with 436 million incomparable subscribers, the organization says in a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com.
The GSMA defines a ‘incomparable mobile subscriber’ as an individual person that can account for multiple ‘mobile connections’, that is SIM cards.
According to GSMA Intelligence, the world’s five billion incomparable mobile subscribers today account for approximately 7.7 billion mobile connections – excluding mobile-to-mobile (M2M).

The SEHATUK app from Dial Technologies includes an index of drugs available in Morocco, along with their prices and dosages.

French group Vivendi sold its stake in Maroc Telecom to the UAE's Etisalat, Vivendi said in a statement on Thursday.
Vivendi will sell its 53% stake in the company. The agreement has reportedly been defined though a number of conditions are still open, inclunding its approval by watchdogs in nations where Maroc Telecom operates.
Under the agreement, the UAE operator will need a Moroccan minority partner, possibly the Moroccan Deposit and Management Fund to finalize the acquisition.

Morocco announced today that the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) will be opening bids for 4G mobile licenses in the country to provide the country with the fastest mobile speeds available.
Bidding is expected to open later this year, with services planned for rollout in 2014. ANRT chief Azzeddinne Al Mountassir Billah said that the decision to roll out 4G service came at the request of consumers.
“This is not a luxury. The aims of adopting 4G for mobile phones are firstly to maintain the increase of this sector and secondly to improve service quality,” he said.

The plan by France’s Vivendi to sell its 53% stake in Maroc Telecom has garnered significant overseas attention, having attracted suitors from South Korea to the Gulf.
In late April, Vivendi announced that it had received bids from Qatari telecoms operator Ooredoo and Abu Dhabi’s Etisalat, both of which are seeking to expand abroad as increase slows in their saturated home markets. The two firms have a presence in other North African nations, but not Morocco.
