  • Global growth will be disappointing in 2016: IMF's Lagarde

    AFGHANISTAN, 2016/01/02 World economic increase will be disappointing next year and the outlook for the medium-term has as well deteriorated, the chief of the International Monetary Fund said in a guest article for German newspaper Handelsblatt published on Wednesday. IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said the prospect of rising interest rates in the United States and an economic slowdown in China were contributing to uncertainty and a higher risk of economic vulnerability worldwide. Added to that, increase in world trade has slowed considerably and a decline in raw material prices is posing problems for economies based on these, while the financial sector in a lot of nations still has weaknesses and financial risks are rising in emerging markets, she said.

    ARMENIA, 2015/09/30 China is ready to integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with development strategies of Eurasian nations, a national councilor said on Thursday. In his address to the 2015 Euro-Asia Economic Forum in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province, National Councilor Wang Yong said Eurasia is the core area of the Belt and Road. The initiative is an opportunity for the construction of a community of shared destiny, said Wang. He made four suggestions, inclunding building trust and respecting each other's core interest.

    CAMBODIA, 2015/09/29 Cambodia has designed strategies to give riel (local currency) a boost so as to reduce dollarization, which represents about 80 % of the currencies circulated in the country, the Central Bank's senior officials said Tuesday. Dollarization in Cambodia measured by the ratio of foreign currency deposit to broad money augmented from 36 % in 1993 to 70 % in 2003 and continued to increase to around 80 % in 2013, Neav Chanthana, deputy governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), or Central Bank, said at the Second Annual NBC Macroeconomic Conference.
  • Cambodian trade unions demand monthly minimum wage of 168 USD for garment sector

    CAMBODIA, 2015/09/29 Trade unions, which represent Cambodia's 700,000 garment and footwear workers, unanimously agreed on Tuesday to request the employers to increase the monthly minimum wage in the garment and footwear sector to 168 U.S. dollars for 2016, up from the current 128 U.S. dollars, according to a joint statement. "Next an over-an-hour conference on Tuesday morning, the trade union representatives unanimously decided to set a figure of 168 U. S. dollars to negotiate in a tripartite conference (trade union, factory, and government representatives)," the statement said.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan for cambodia irrigation system

    CAMBODIA, 2015/09/29 The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 60-million-U.S.-dollar loan to increase agricultural production by rehabilitating, modernizing and climate- proofing irrigation systems in Cambodia's two provinces, its statement said on Tuesday. "Low agricultural productivity is a critical problem for Cambodian farmers, who depend on poorly maintained irrigation systems to grow rice," Raza Mahmood Farrukh, Water Resources Specialist in ADB's Southeast Asia Regional Department, said in the statement. "This funding will support the government's efforts to expand irrigated land, manage water resources additional efficiently, and make farmers less vulnerable to natural hazards such as floods as a consequence of climate change," he said.

    CAMBODIA, 2015/02/21 Laos President Choummaly Sayasone will pay a national visit to Cambodia on Feb. 26 and 27 to further promote bilateral ties and cooperation, a news statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on said on Friday. Each raft works with the help of the others. The litter from the toilets is used as fertilizer for the garden and the plants recycle the water before releasing it into the lake.
