  • Sudan to Export Its First Shipment of Refined Gold

    SUDAN, 2012/10/13  Sudan is set to ship the first batch of gold coming out of the refinery inaugurated last month according to an official here. The director of the refinery, Azhari al-Tayeb Faki Ahmed told Sudan news agency (SUNA) that the shipment is worth $5.6 million but did not specify where it is destined. Ahmed added that the refinery produces 300 kilograms of gold per shift which he noted is equivalent $17 million under current prices.

    SUDAN, 2012/10/07 The chief of Sudan's maiden gold refinery admitted, in a radio interview broadcast on Friday, that his establishment is facing  problems in meeting standards for receiving international recognition. Sudan opened its first gold refinery on Wednesday, 19 September, with the aim of boosting national revenues and improving the quality of its gold exports for the sake of tradability. The East African country is looking for gold to make up for the budget deficit it incurred since losing three quarters of its oil production due to the secession of South Sudan in July last year. Government officials say gold exports generated 2.6 billion US dollars over the past 16 months.

  • Industry Minister Unveils Four Plants in Huambo and Caála 2012-08-18

    ANGOLA, 2012/08/18 The Minister of Geology, Mining and Industry, Joaquim David, inaugurated on Thursday in Huambo and Caála cities four factories that will provide various services to the people and reduce the imports in these regions.  During a few hours in the central Huambo province, the official re-inaugurated the factory of Habitec comercial e Industria S.A, which generated 40 jobs, with the capacity to produce 55 cubic metres of dry timber and 250 units of various furniture daily, among school desks, doors and windows. The minister as well re-inaugurated a ceramic owned by Soconforto group with capacity to produce 58 tons of clay, which corresponds to 30 units, among bricks and tiles in eight hours of daily production.

    NIGER, 2012/07/02 Tony Buckingham, the multimillionaire former mercenary turned oil tycoon, is likely to see his paper worth soar even higher after his Heritage Oil company announced a $850m (£540m) takeover of Nigerian oil assets. Paul Atherton, Heritage's finance director, said shareholders – the largest of whom is Buckingham – would be "hugely ecstatic" with the deal that will "transform" the FTSE 250 company into a major player in the oil industry.
