  • No decision yet on financing production increase at Tengiz oilfield

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2016/05/28 The Wellhead Pressure Management Project / Next Increase Project (WPMP / FGP), which will make it possible to significantly increase oil production at the Kazakh Tengiz field, are being considered, but a decision on their financing hasn't been made from presently on, Tengizchevroil (TCO) Consortium engaged in the development of the field, told Trend. "Large capital projects of the TCO undergo thorough and rigorous consideration to be coordinated with the partners in order to ensure their further safe, profitable and timely implementation," said the consortium.
  • The Scottish oil field services company Wood Group

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/10/14 The Scottish oil field services company Wood Group will provide the Tengizchevroil crude storage capacity project at the Tengiz field with detailed engineering, control hardware and remote instrument enclosures in order to help increase its storage capacity. Wood Group will assume control over the work at the Tengiz field as part of a multi-million dollar arrangement, which the group had won in Kazakhstan from US civil engineering outfit Bechtel.
  • Oil output in Kazakhstan to decrease by 20,000 barrels

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/10/14 The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Nations forecasted the decrease in Kazakhstan’s oil production by 20,000 barrels per day in 2015 to average 1.62 million barrels per day. As compare with its September oil market statement, OPEC predicted that Kazakhstan’s oil production will decrease by 10,000 barrels per day in 2015. OPEC said that Kazakhstan’s August output declined compared to July by a steep 86,000 barrels per day to 1.51 million barrels per day, the lowest level since October 2014. This was due to a 0.1 million barrel per day decline in Tengiz field output.
  • Kazakhstan sees increase in oil and gas production

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/08/19 Kazakhstan has seen an increase in oil and natural gas production in January-July 2015, the country's Statistics Committee under the National Economy Ministry reported. The production of oil, inclunding gas condensate, increased by 0.7 % to reach 47 million tons in the reported period. The committee as well said that the production of gasoline decreased by 2.8 % to 1.6 million tons, and diesel fuel by 2.7 % to 2.7 million tons in the initial seven months of 2015. In the reported period, the country's electricity production reduced by 2.3 % to 52.8 billion kilowatt/hours.
  • Kazakhstan plans to establish oil consortium for Eurasia project

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/07/29 Kazakhstan is considering to establish oil consortium to ensure the implementation of the Eurasia international oil project in the Caspian basin, according to remarks made by Kazakhstan's Deputy Energy Minister Uzakbai Karabalin at a July 27 briefing in Central Communications Service under the president. "Kazakhstan is considering the establishment of the consortium on public-private partnership with the further implementation of works on the Eurasia project in 2016-2021 in order to ensure the implementation of tasks, in particular on such a large project," he said. Karabalin as well noted that Kazakhstan is developing a legal code on ubsoil and its adoption is scheduled for 2015-2016. The government plans to make amendments to the Tax Code in order to reduce the tax burden in conducting geological research, exploration of subsoils, inclunding the implementation of the arrangement on the geological study of the Caspian Basin.
  • Kazakhstan to ban gasoline,fuel imports from Russia

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/03/06 Kazakhstan plans to prohibit gasoline and diesel fuel imports from its biggest trade partner neighboring Russia. Magzum Mirzagaliyev, vice minister of energy explained that from March 5th Kazakhstan will introduce a ban on gasoline and diesel fuel imports from Russia, Tengrinews reported. “From March 5 we are introducing a 45-day-long ban on all imports of gasoline and diesel fuel from Russia. The two nations have agreed that in the current year Kazakhstan will import 1,100,000 tons of gasoline and around 760 000 tons of diesel fuel,” Mirzagaliyev said. He added that in the beginning of the year Kazakhstan has imported a substantial part of this volume.
  • No considerable increase expected in Kazakhstan’s gas extraction

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/01/16 The U.S. Energy Data Government says it doesn’t expect a considerable increase in Kazakhstan’s gas extraction. In its Country Analysis Brief statement on Kazakhstan, published on January 14, EIA said Kazakhstan's major petroleum liquids fields such as Karachaganak and Tengiz contain substantial volumes of natural gas, most of which is re-injected into oil wells to improve oil recovery rates. “At the same time as it comes online, the initial phase of the Kashagan project is expected to marginally boost supplies of dry gas to consumers in Kazakhstan,” the statement said. “However, like the Karachaganak and Tengiz projects, much of the gas produced from Kashagan will be either re-injected into the well to boost liquids recovery or used at the project site to produce electricity.”
  • KMG,CNPC agree on expansion of technical cooperation

    CHINA, 2014/12/17 Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company KazMunaiGas (KMG) and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will jointly work on increasing the oil recovery and utilization of the accompanying gas at fields in southern Kazakhstan. The agreement on the expansion of technical cooperation in the oil and gas sector between CNPC and KMG will serve as a basis for this. The agreement was inked in Astana next a conference of the Kazakhstan-China Business Council with the participation of heads of governments of the two nations. The document stipulates that the KMG and CNPC will expand technical cooperation in the oil and gas industry, inclunding in boosting the oil recovery of the oil fields in the ‘South Turgai’ basin in Kazakhstan.
  • Kazakhstan to launch projects in mining, metallurgical sector

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2014/12/06 Kazakhstan plans to implement over 30 investment projects in mining and metallurgical sector in 2015-2017. The plan was put forward in a letter from Kazakh Deputy Investment and Development Minister Yerzhan Sagadiyev to the participants of the 2nd Annual CIS Sustainable Mining Forum in Astana on December 2. "We plan to implement 31 investment projects worth 1.3 trillion tenges (180.87 tenges = $1) in mining and metallurgical sector until 2018," he said in his message.
  • Kazakh energy ministry denies gasoline price hike

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2014/12/05 Kazakhstan’s Initial Deputy Energy Minister Uzakbai Karabalin has rejected as baseless any reports on a possible increase of gasoline price up to 300 tenges (181.09 tenges = $1) per liter. “Of course, there may be some increase in the price but not so much,” he noted on December 3. The deputy minister as well said today a number of companies supply oil to the plants, inclunding KazMunaiGas, OzenMunaiGas, "MangistauMunaiGas, PetroKazakhstan and others. All they supplies necessary oil for processing.
