Kazakhstan could save 2.5 billion tenge (about $ 17 million) through the use of differentiated electricity tariffs, Agency for Regulation of Natural Monopolies Chairman Murat Ospanov said today.
"By using differentiated tariffs for electricity, about 2.5 billion tenge was saved," Ospanov said. "Thus, the electricity savings in the country amounted to about 421 million kW / h, fuel economy - about 105,000 tons of coal (1,700 carriages), reduction of contaminant emissions (ash) - about 46,000 tons, the savings of consumers' money - over 3 billion tenge."
He said that the third level of differentiation in electricity tariffs on the consumption has been introduced since April 1, this year.

China Development Bank (CDB) of the country's three policy banks, has signed agreements with Kazak copper giant Kazakhmys PLC, granting the mine and refinery operator 1.34 billion U.S. dollars and 1 billion yuan (158 million U.S. dollars) for a new project.
According to the agreements signed on Friday in Urumqi, capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, both the loans, with a term of 15 years, will be used to fund development of a new mine in Aktogay, east Kazakhstan.
