Serbia: Serbia and Algeria equal their 'excellent political relations'

2013/11/07

It is the objective of both Serbia and Algeria to develop economic cooperation that would mirror the high level of political relations, Serbia's Initial Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Algerian Minister of Water Resources Hocine Necib agreed Wednesday before a conference of the economic committee of the two nations. It is in Serbia's economic and political interest to improve relations with Algeria, Vucic stressed.

Speaking about economic cooperation, Vucic said that Serbian companies had demonstrated interest and were able to supply Algeria with agricultural machinery and equipment, food products, rubber products and consumer goods, particularly medicines.

Minister Necib noted that the former Yugoslavia (of which Serbia was part) had offered assistance to Algeria in its fight for liberation and that economic cooperation was not from presently on at the level of the excellent political relations, opportunities and historically good ties between the two nations.

In the 1980s, he noted, the scope of trade reached USD 500 million, but, unfortunately, relations between the two nations were relatively stagnant in the 1990s due to the transition processes.

The Algerian minister of water resources said that since these processes had been completed and political stability completed, the two nations could presently bolster economic cooperation
