Canada: Trump's Super Tuesday Surge Triggers Google Search To Move To Canada

2016/03/04

What has been considered a joke is presently being taken seriously.

Next Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump's Super Tuesday surge, Google reported a 1,500 % increase in searching variations of the phrase "how to move to Canada."

Last month, a resident of the Canadian island of Cape Breton invited Americans who hate to see having Trump as their president to live in his land.

Rob Calabrese, a 39 year-old local radio disc jockey, created a website called "Cape Breton If Donald Trump Wins" to pitch the Nova Scotian island as a perfect escape from a Trump presidency.

Next a month of a series of primary elections which began with Iowa caucus on February 1, the controversial real estate magnate has won 10 of 11 national primaries so far, sending alarm bells to the Republican party leadership, which is reportedly scrambling to prevent him from becoming the nominee for the November presidential poll.

"All the sudden the joke is over and this is critical. We have a critical problem and people are showing a critical interest in moving here," said the website's creator Rob Calibrese.

"Hi Americans! Donald Trump may become the president of your country! If that happens, and you decide to get the hell out of there, may I suggest moving to Cape Breton Island," a statement on the website says.

The site received massive attraction since its launch, and has so far had almost a million clicks. And the small island's tourism department deployed additional staff to attend calls around the clock next Trump's Super Tuesday victory.

Election year in the US usually is a season for Americans increasingly applying for Canada visas, permanent residency and citizenship.

This election cycle the migration wave seems to be targeting Trump. Canada is the initial choice for Americans to move to if they don't want to live under a Trump Presidency, where he cost of living is one of the lowest in North America.

Cape Breton Island, off the northeast tip of Nova Scotia province, is about 500 miles east of the US national of Maine, and famous for natural coastal beauty, sailing and whale-watching tours, and affordable housing.

  • China will take over the G-20 presidency on December 1 and host the summit for the first time,

2015/11/30 In the late 1990s, the world seemed to be lurching from one economic crisis to an extra. But only a handful of developed nations, known as the Group of Seven, seemed to have the last word on what everyone else should do about it. One man thought there was something wrong with that: Paul Martin, the former prime minister of Canada, who is widely credited as the architect of the Group of 20. Established in 1999, the grouping serves as a forum for world economic leaders, such as finance ministers and central bank governors, from both developed and developing nations to discuss pressing issues. This year's G-20 summit will be held in Antalya, Turkey, from November 15 to 16. China will take over the G-20 presidency on December 1 and host the summit for the initial time, in the major eastern city of Hangzhou, in November next year.
