  • Ryanair flies to the Red Sea resort of Eilat in southern Israel

    ISRAEL, 2015/12/16 Ryanair could benefit from an expected increase in the number of Russian and Eastern European tourists travelling to sun holidays in Israel as a result of geo-political instability. Turkey and Egypt are entirely off-limits for Russian tourists particularly next the downing of a Russian commercial jet in Egypt, and tensions next a Russian military jet was shot down by Turkish forces last month. About 3.3 million Russians visited Turkey last year, and 2.6 million Russians visited Egypt. Over 500,000 visited Israel.
  • Israelis not allowed on Saudi Airlines

    ISRAEL, 2013/07/22 The New York City Public Advocate, who acts as an ombudsman, last week threatened to expel Saudi Arabian Airlines from New York’s John F Kennedy Airport because it refuses to sell tickets to Israeli-passport holders. The director general of Saudi Arabian Airlines has defended his company’s decision to discriminate against Israeli citizens by refusing to fly them from US airports, according to Arabic media. Bill de Blasio said the discrimination breached US federal law.
  • Israeli airlines to strike over 'Open Skies' deal

    ISRAEL, 2013/04/28 The workers' committees at Israel's three carriers El Al, Arkia, and Israir decided Sunday at a crisis conference to declare a strike beginning Sunday, unless the government freezes its intention to approve the "Open Skies Agreement" at Sunday's cabinet conference, and open talks with the carriers' representatives on the matter.
