  • Turkey to build dams in Mauritania and Senegal

    TURKEY, 2016/04/05 The Forestry and Water Affairs Ministry has vowed to "share its experiences and opportunities" in all areas to contribute to Africa's development on the basis of a win-win principle. In line with the principle of "African solutions for Africa's problems," the ministry will build dams in Mauritania and Senegal. A statement by the ministry revealed that Forestry and Water Affairs Minister Veysel Eroğlu will visit the two African nations starting today until Friday. Eroğlu will sign trilateral cooperation agreements with the Mauritanian and Senegalese governments in the fields of water works, meteorology and forestry with the objective of further improving cooperation in reforestation, seedling production, combating desertification and erosion, geographic data systems and remote sensing, fire management, nature conservation, protection, development and management of water resources, water and wastewater treatment technologies, monitoring and management of water quality, irrigation, flood management, water well drilling, dam construction, meteorological observation systems, meteorological forecasts and early warnings, meteorological data processing and meteorological research.

    INDIA, 2015/05/07 Notwithstanding US objections, India on Wednesday went ahead with the signing of an agreement with Iran for the development of the strategically significant Chabahar port which will give India sea-land access route to Afghanistan bypassing Pakistan. The pact was signed next comprehensive talks between visiting road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari with the Iranian leadership in Tehran. “The MoU (Memorandum of Considerate) was signed next the talks between the two sides,” a source said. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in his conference with Gadkari, said, “Resumption of Iran-India cooperation in the southeastern Iranian port city of Chabahar would lead to a new chapter in relations of two nations.”

    TURKEY, 2014/02/15 Turkey vowed Tuesday to press ahead with the construction of what could become one of the world's busiest airports despite a court order halting work over environmental concerns. A court last month suspended work on Istanbul's third airport next local residents and environmental groups filed a lawsuit, arguing that the operations caused critical damage to the environment, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.
