  • Cyprus: Delek extends tender offer for supply of natural gas

    CYPRUS, 2014/08/20 Israel's Delek Group announced that its gas subsidiaries have accepted a request from the Cyprus national gas distributor DEFA to postpone the period of validity of the proposition and acceptance in its terms of a binding agreement for the supply of natural gas, from August 15 to November 30 as Financial Mirror online reported. DEFA launched on January 25 an open competition for the supply of natural gas, for a period of up to ten years, commencing January 1, 2016.
  • Athens, Tel Aviv sign deal to deepen cooperation

    ISRAEL, 2013/10/15 Greece and Israel signed a joint declaration last week that further enhances their cooperation in the energy sector and acts as a guide for the development of relations of wider geopolitical significance for the two Mediterranean nations. It as well makes clear, as daily Kathimerini reports today, that the two sides will proceed with a series of actions for the joint extraction and exploitation of hydrocarbons The two states "will examine ways and means for the better development of natural resources in the Eastern Mediterranean and their transfer to the energy market," reads the confidential agreement, which has been seen by Kathimerini. This phrase refers to plans for the construction of an underwater gas pipeline from Israel to Greece via Cyprus, bypassing Turkey. Greek-Israeli cooperation stretches well beyond that pipeline, however. The declaration signed by Greek Energy Minister Yiannis Maniatis and his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom, provides for additional cooperation in the fields of natural gas inclunding of renewable energy sources in the context of international and European organizations.

    CYPRUS, 2013/08/12  Israel, Greece and Cyprus on Wednesday signed an agreement in Nicosia for the linking of their electricity grids via a 2,000-megawatt underwater cable - known as the EuroAsia Interconnector, which is part of the European Union's Projects of Common Interest plan, daily Kathimerini reports. Israeli Energy Minister Sylvan Shalom hailed the signing of a memorandum of considerate on issues of energy and water resources between the three nations as ''of historic significance.'' He said relations between Israel and Cyprus were better than ever and that the memorandum will further strengthen them.
