Bahrain: Gulf Air to Resume Flights to Mashhad, Iran

Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, today announced that it will be recommencing flights to Mashhad, in Iran, with four weekly flights starting on the 17th December.

As one of the Middle East’s major network carriers, Gulf Air is well-positioned to connect Iran to several key destinations in the Middle East and Europe with excellent connectivity within 3 hours through its efficient hub in Bahrain.

Mashhad is the second most populous city in Iran and is the capital of Razavi Khorasan Province. It is located in north east of the country close to the borders of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Its people was 2,772,287 at the 2011 people census. It was a major oasis along the ancient Silk Road connecting with Merv in the East.

Mashhad is the hometown of some of the majority significant Iranian literary figures and artists such as Mehdi Akhavan-Sales, the famous contemporary poet and Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, the traditional Iranian singer and composer. Mashhad is as well known as the city of Ferdowsi, the Iranian poet of Shahnameh, which is considered to be the national epic of Iran.

Ferdowsi and Akhavan Sales are both buried in Tus, an ancient city that is considered to be the major origin of the current city of Mashhad.

    2017/09/08 Bahrain-based GFH Financial Group (GFH) has announced that it has completed the acquisition of a $1.2 billion infrastructure portfolio in Africa and Middle East. Acquisition has been funded by $315m capital increase taking GFH issued and paid up capital to $975m The acquisition comes as part of GFH’s new strategy approved in the last shareholders’ conference in March and subsequent to regulatory approvals, the company said in a statement.
