Malaysia's independent power producer Teknik Janakuasa Sdn. Bhd has been licensed to develop a coal-fired power plant with investment of 2.4 billion U. S. dollars in Vietnam's Tra Vinh Province, local online newspaper Tuoi Tre (Youth) News reported Tuesday.
The Duyen Hai 2 thermal power plant will have two turbines with a total capacity of 1,200MW, the Foreign Investment Agency under the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment said, adding that the project is in the investment form of BOT (build-operate- transfer).
Duyen Hai 2 is the second-major part the foreign-invested projects that have been approved in Vietnam so far this year, following the 3-billion U.S. dollar investment pledged to pump into a screen-making facility in the northern province of Bac Ninh.
