  • South Africa Tourism issues statement on amended immigration regulations

    SOUTH AFRICA, 2016/11/11 Since 2014, the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) has been working to help its members and those of the tourism to understand two regulations that are included in the Amended Immigration Regulations as it pertains to travel. The TBCSA issued a statement to address the persisting challenges that the travel and tourism industry faces with the implementation of the Amended Immigration Regulations. The specific challenges faced by the industry are with the unintended consequences of biometric data capturing for international visitors into the country and the continued requirement of unabridged birth certificates for minors under the age of 18 traveling into the country.

    TANZANIA, 2016/11/04 British firm Pennyroyal Gibraltar has announced plans to build a $1 billion resort complex on the island of Unguja in Tanzania. According to the Citizen, the new complex will be known as Zanzibar Amber Resort and will include five different 5-star hotels, a fully equipped equestrian center, a private jet airport featuring a 3,000-meter runway, national-of-the-art medical facilities, and an international school. The investment could drastically transform the island by providing additional than 1,500 jobs for locals during its construction. Pennyroyal Director Brian Thomson expects the project to take about eight years to complete.

    KENYA, 2016/07/04   Kenya ‘s economy expanded by 5.9 % in the initial quarter of 2016 compared to 5 % in the same period last year. According to the country’s bureau of statistics, the increase is attributed to a rebound in the tourism sector. Tourism is a key foreign exchange earner but has plunged in recent years following a spate of security incidents that kept visitors away from the country.
