    ANGOLA, 2015/01/02 Companhia de Bioenergia de Angola (Biocom) produced 3,100 tons of sugar and 3,500 cubic metres of ethanol in its experimental phase, the Director General of the company said. During a conference to end the trial period of the project, Carlos Matias as well said that the company produced 20 megawatts of electricity by processing sugarcane bagasse.

    KENYA, 2014/11/05 Boma Safi Limited, Kitui Industries Limited, Pfoofy Power & Light Limited, SCODE Limited and Sollatek Electronics Kenya Limited are the Kenya winners of the Power Africa Off-Grid Energy Challenge. They will each receive a grant of $100,000 (Sh8.9 million) for initiating off-grid solutions that deploy renewable resources and power socio-economic activities. They join a inventory of 22 winners from Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania who beat a field of nearly 300 entries and will as well receive grants of $100,000 each.

    ZIMBABWE, 2014/10/06 Zimbabwe is looking to develop a renewable energy policy to provide the energy sector with guidelines and a roadmap for creating a additional conducive environment for attracting investment . Gloria Magombo, CEO of the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has stated that the policy will aim to address all the gaps, such as incentives for increased uptake and investment in renewable energy and legislation. Magombo has further explained her organization was working to develop the policy in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Power Development. “The terms of reference have been finalised and ZERA is set to fund the project,” she continued. “ZERA intends to initiate a consultative process to develop a renewable energy policy and we’re going to involve a number of stakeholders.”

    EUROPEAN UNION, 2014/06/09 Photovoltaic energy is growing in the Middle East and North Africa and is showing great potential someday, according to a study published on Friday by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) analyzing the sector's world perspectives until 2018. If in Europe - next the boom recorded in 2011 with Italy and Germany as protagonists - there has been an inversion in the trend over the last year with fewer new systems, the opposite trend has been registered in MENA nations. Percentages remain low here compared to the Old Continent but the trend is growing, the research noted. The MENA market today makes up for approximately 2-4% of the world market but is expected to grow to 7-10% by 2018.

    KENYA, 2014/04/01 The Lake Turkana Wind Power Project (LTWP), meant to add an existing 300MW of reliable, low cost wind energy to the national grid of Kenya, reached a critical milestone following the signing of the financial agreements in Nairobi, the capital. The signing of the over US$870 million financing agreements represents a major breakthrough to actualizing the biggest clean power energy project in Africa, spanning years of negotiations and fundraising, says Tshepo Mahloele, the CEO of Harith General Partners. The project will be financed with a mixture of equity, mezzanine deficit and senior deficit. The Lake Turkana Wind Power project is the initial of its kind in East Africa and will be the major wind project on the continent to date, says Mahloele.
