  • Nissan expects China sales to rebound

    CHINA, 2013/04/06 Nissan Motor Co. (7201), the Japanese carmaker that sells the majority cars in China, expects sales in the world’s major automobile market to rebound within three months, as request for Japanese-branded vehicles recovers. “We’ve seen increase in retail year on year in March and year to date,” Andy Palmer, executive vice president of the Yokohama, Japan-based carmaker told Bloomberg Television’s John Dawson in an interview yesterday.
  • Chinese automotive group Chery Automobile Co plans to build a factory in Brazil

    CHINA, 2013/04/05 Chinese automotive group Chery Automobile Co plans to build a factory in Brazil to manufacture engines and gearboxes, said the chairman of the group’s Brazilian subsidiary, Luis Curi. Cited by the Brazilian press, Curi noted that the amount of investment and location of the factory had from presently on to be decided, but added that everything would be decided quickly so that engines and gearboxes can be manufactured at the same time as the next car factory starts operating.
  • Aid coming for steel firms affected by Malaysia tariffs

    TAIWAN AREA, 2013/03/12 The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said yesterday it will help local steelmakers affected by Malaysia's anti-dumping tariffs on steel wire rod imports from Taiwan, part other nations.  The MOEA said that while it has not from presently on been formally informed of Malaysia's anti-dumping action, it is determined to provide any necessary assistance to local steel makers who may be affected.

Negotiators from the United States and 10 other nations are holding closed-door talks in Singapore from March 4-13 on the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as they race to seal an accord.
  • China auto sales up 19.5%

    CHINA, 2013/03/12  China's auto sales accelerated in the prime two months of this year, rising 19.5 % over the same period of 2012 in a possible positive sign for an economic recovery. Automakers sold 2.8 million cars in January and February, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported Monday. Total sales, inclunding trucks and buses, rose 14.7 % to 3.4 million vehicles.

    INDIA, 2013/03/12 Car sales in India's once-booming passenger market plunged nearly 26 % last month on an annual basis, their worst performance in 12 years, industry figures showed Monday.  Car sales, seen as a key pointer to in general economic health, slid by 25.71 % to 158,513 units in February from the same month in 2012, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said.

    INDIA, 2013/01/05 An apex trade lobby of Indian gems and jewellery industry Friday flayed moves by the government to effect further hike in import business on gold, saying it would "affect the sector badly and encourage smuggling". Amount India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) chairman Bachhraj Bamalwa said the organisation has submitted its approbation to reduce the import business on gold from the existing 2% to4 %.
