  • Regional energy cooperation in spotlight

    AZERBAIJAN, 2013/06/12 A drive is gathering pace in Brunei Darussalam to increase regional cooperation on energy provision as part of a broader bid by Asia’s oil producers to meet rising request from nearby fast-growing economies. Brunei Darussalam is one of only three nations in “developing Asia”, alongside Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, estimate still to be energy-self-sufficient in 2035, according to a statement published in April by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The ADB analysis was based on a country’s projected primary energy mix until 2035, taking into account key factors such as the amount of coal needed to generate electricity, current indigenous reserves of fossil fuel and projected consumption in the interim years.

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2013/05/23 A Kazakh delegation from KazEnergy Association is attending the International Summit of the World Energy Council (WEC), which started in Beijing on Wednesday.  KazEnergy Association Deputy Chairman Jambulat Sarsenov said the Kazakh delegation will present its vision on the Strategy of transition to the green economy.

    KYRGYZSTAN, 2013/01/25 Kyrgyzstan ratifies agreement with Russia on construction of Kambarata HHP-1.According to the statement, Kyrgyz Jogorku Kenesh has approved the draft law "On ratification of the agreement part the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the Government of the Russian Federation on construction and operation of Upper Naryn cascade of the hydropower plants" and the agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on construction and operation of the Kambarata HPP-1, signed on in Bishkek September 20, 2012."

  • Bangladesh hikes electricity prices by 15 pct

    BANGLADESH, 2013/01/01 Bangladesh's energy regulator BERC has approved increases in electricity prices for retail consumers by an average of 15 % effective from this month to cut the losses of the national-run power generating firm, it said on Thursday. It as well increased bulk power price by 16.92 %. The new power tariff is effective from September 1, BERC chairman Syed Yusuf Hossain, announced at a news conference.

ExxonMobil sees OECD economies expanding by about 2 % a year on average through 2040, as the United States, European nations and others gradually recover and return to sustained increase. Non OECD economies will grow much faster, at almost 4.5 % a year.
  • China's gas demand to rise to 350 Bcm by 2020

    CHINA, 2013/01/01 China's annual gas request is expected to rise to 350 billion cubic meters (33.8 Bcf/d) by 2020 and 550 Bcm by 2030 from 130 Bcm in 2011, a top official with national-owned China National Petroleum Corporation said Thursday. Speaking at the World Gas Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Zhou Jiping, CNPC's president, said that China may surpass Russia to become the world's second major gas consumer by 2030.
