    UNITED STATES, 2013/02/03 The US-ASEAN Business Council has appointed Evan G. Greenberg, chairman and CEO of ACE Limited, as the Chairman of the Council’s Board of Directors starting January 1, 2013. Mr. Greenberg succeeds George Kirkland, executive vice president, Upstream and Gas, and Vice Chairman of the Board for the Chevron Corporation. Greenberg will serve a two-year term as Chairman.

    INDONESIA, 2013/01/12 The Indonesian construction company PT Waskita Karya plans in the second quarter to begin three public works projects in East Timor together worth 500 billion rupiahs (US$51.82 million), the company’s president recently indicated in Jakarta. Mohammad Choliq specified that the three projects involve a 20 km long road, a steel-structure bridge and a 15 km electric power line, the Jakarta Post newspaper reported.

    JAPAN, 2013/01/11 Mitsui will buy the stake from EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the French power giant’s renewables arm, via a newly-established subsidiary called MIT Renewables Mexico. The $400m Bii Stinu project is due to start commercial operations in Oaxaca, Mexico, in June this year.
  • Nordex milestone in Pakistan

    GERMANY, 2013/01/11 The 50MW Jhimpir wind park, which consists of 33 1.5MW Nordex turbines, is 100km northeast of Karachi. The project was bankrolled by fertiliser group Fauji, a subsidiary of the Fauji Foundation industrial conglomerate. Nordex has signed supply deals for five additional wind farms in Pakistan, each comprising 20 of its N100/2500 turbines. Fauji, Gul Ahmed Energy, Metro Power and Yunus Energy are the customers for those projects.
  • Pinergy to launch new pay-as-you-go electricity service 'in the next month'

    EUROPE, 2013/01/01 A new pay-as-you-go electricity service hopes to be up and running next month subject to regulatory approval being secured in the next few weeks. Pinergy, which is fronted by corporate financier Enda Gunnell, a former partner at Mazars, is awaiting final approval from the energy regulator to begin signing up customers. Mr Gunnell said the company hoped to fasten the green light in the next couple of weeks and be able to start marketing its services towards the end of January.
  • JX Nippon Buys Eni's Non-Operated UK Continental Shelf Assets

    JAPAN, 2012/12/23 JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration disclosed Thursday that it will acquire Eni's non-operated oil and gas assets in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS), in line with its strategy of global production of 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (bopd) by 2020. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, JX Nippon Exploration and Production (UK) Limited (JXNEPUK), the Japanese company will buy Eni's entire interests in 17 producing fields and several discoveries that are either being developed or are expected to be developed shortly.
