  • Apple Inc said it has signed a long-awaited agreement with China Mobile

    CHINA, 2014/01/01 Apple Inc said it has signed a long-awaited agreement with China Mobile Limited to sell iPhones through the world’s biggest network of mobile phone users. In a transaction that could add billions of dollars to its revenue, Apple said its smartphones will be available to China Mobile customers starting January 17. Pricing and availability details for the iPhone 5S and 5C lines will be disclosed at a later date, Reuters quoted it as saying in a statement. China Mobile, which has about 760 million customers, will begin registering orders for iPhone from December 25, the company said on its account on the Sina-Weibo micro-blogging service.

He said it was the desire of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to see Malaysia not only as a consumer in the data technology sector but as well as a major player in IT development. Presently we expect to be able to communicate at the speed of light all of the time, even while we're traveling in that large ol' jet airliner. Passengers have a strong desire for Wi-Fi, and they're even willing to give up some of the small comforts of flying, according to a recent survey conducted by Honeywell. Everybody complains about the legroom, but it a lot of would be happy to trade a comfy seat for a reliable laptop connection. Honeywell has a strong interest in just how badly you want to be connected during your flight. The company is one of several firms that makes in-flight connectivity possible for airline passengers, and in an effort to highlight a new service it will start in 2015, it wants to remind travellers just how "bad" things are today.
  • Brunei Darussalam takes steps to lessen rural digital divide

    BRUNEI , 2013/08/13 Rural areas of Brunei Darussalam, which have long faced problems with data and communications technology (ICT) services, are set to benefit from a move to align the Sultanate’s bandwidth with that of its regional neighbours. The decision to replace mobile frequency bands comes as the Sultanate prepares to hand out 4G long-term evolution (LTE) licences. However, despite the wave of activity taking place across the telecoms sector, there are concerns that the joint roaming agreement could fail to produce results for the country, unless tariffs are revised downwards to levels nearer those of its regional peers.

    CHINA, 2013/08/09 ZTE eyes cloud computing, integrated circuitry services - Upon completion of the National Public Security Communications project that it signed with the Federal Government in 2010, ZTE, a Chinese company, with world presence has said it will continue to strengthen its development capabilities while moving into emerging technologies such as Cloud Computing and Integrated Circuitry. Managing Director for ZTE Nigeria, Mr. Sulaiman Mazeng Hong, gave the insight in Lagos recently, while giving details of the National Public Security Communications project.
  • Ethiopia signs LTE agreement with Huawei

    CHINA, 2013/08/01 Ethiopia has signed a $700 million agreement with China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd to expand the country’s mobile phone infrastructure and introduce high-speed 4G broadband network in the capital Addis Ababa and 3G service throughout the country. The agreement is half of a $1.6 billion project split between Huawei and ZTE, China’s second-major telecoms equipment maker. Huawei, the world’s second major telecom equipment maker, has been involved in developing phone and internet services in Ethiopia for several years. Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and technology, who welcomed the transaction, said that the original target had been to reach 40 million subscribers, but presently inclunding the w3G service, there would be 56 million subscribers by 2015.

    MYANMAR, 2013/06/29 MTN has expressed its disappointment next having missed out on the opportunity to operate a telecommunications network in Myanmar. This followed the announcement today of two successful bidders for operating licences by that country’s Telecommunications Operator Tender Evaluation and Selection Committee. The MTN Consortium, which included Myanmar-based Amara Communications and M1 Telecom Limited, was part of the highly competitive bid process involving 11 other international operators.
  • CITIC Telecom plans to invest in Macau

    CHINA, 2013/06/26 CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (CITIC Telecom) plans to invest 1.3 billion Hong Kong dollars over the next three years in technological innovation for Macau telecommunications company Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau (CTM), the group’s chief executive said Monday in Macau. Norman Yuen Kee Tong gave assurances that CTM would be equipped with a fibre optic network covering the whole of Macau and the speed of its digital services would increase, particularly Internet access, both in the business sector and for the general people. The chief executive of CITIC Telecom said that there was no set schedule for introduction of the 4G network in Macau, but noted that by the end of this year or the beginning of next year there would be additional news.

    VIETNAM, 2013/06/24  IT workers are in high request with the industry developing fast, said Tran Anh Tuan, deputy director of the Centre of Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labor Market Data in Ho Chi Minh City. He said that within the IT industry there is a growing request for human resources in the subsectors of digital technology, e-commerce and video games.
