  • Vietnam's imports of pesticide rise 7.5 pct in Q1, mostly from China

    CHINA, 2017/04/07 Vietnam's imports of pesticide reached some 180 million U.S. dollars in the initial quarter of 2017, up 7.5 % year-on-year, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Monday. During the period, China came top as the major supplier of Vietnam, accounting for over 50 % of the spending.
  • Katsina Gov To Acquire 1000 Tractors For Farmers

    INDIA, 2016/08/25 The Katsina National government has pledged to assist farmers in the national to acquire about 1000 tractors in the next three years to make farming fully mechanised in the national. The appropriate adviser to the governor on Agriculture, Dr Abba Abdullahi, stated this at the same time as the deputy governor and Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Mannir Abdullahi, inspected the initial tranche of 50 tractors under Katsina Mahindra Agricultural Intervention Programme that have arrived in Katsina.
  • Kazakhstan reveals grain export volumes

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2016/05/28 Kazakhstan has announced volumes of its grain export. The country has exported about 7.6 billion tons of grain (inclunding flour) since early 2016, reads a statement issued by the country’s Agriculture Ministry. Grain exports totaled 4.9mn tons, while flour exports stood at 1.8mn tons, the ministry said. This year's target for grain exports has been met at 92.5% so far.
  • Kenyan officials benefit from Chinese-funded training on rice production

    CHINA, 2016/03/23 Gladys Mwafungo, a senior agricultural officer in Kenya's coastal county of Kilifi and her five colleagues have sharpened their skills in rice production thanks to a two month training program sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in June last year. During an interview with Xinhua on Sunday evening, Mwafungo said her study tour to China's Yuan Longping Agricultural Hitech Institute exposed her to cutting edge technologies on production of hybrid rice. "I went to China mid last year for an exchange program on hybrid rice production sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce. The two month training focused on technologies used in production of high yielding rice varieties," said Mwafungo.
  • India: Agriculture Is In Again

    INDIA, 2016/03/20 With the increase in allocation to the agriculture sector in Budget 2016, the Modi government has revealed a renewed tilt towards rural India. How this financial roadmap will lead to revitalizing agriculture and developing rural India will depend on the politics. Agriculture was a major winner in the Government of India’s Union Budget for 2016, announced on 29 February. The sector, which employs 49% of the work force but contributes only 16% to the GDP, received an 84% increase in outlays for the fiscal year ending 31 March, 2017. The allocation comes off a small base and is almost $7 billion at current exchange rates, or 2.25% of the total budget.
  • China aims to increase Africa's expertise in novel bamboo products

    CHINA, 2015/12/15 China aims to increase Africa's expertise in novel bamboo products through a new knowledge exchange network, it was announced at the COP 21 summit. The country plans to team up with African states to start a partnership that would see knowledge about bamboo growth and products, such as bamboo-based biofuels and charcoal briquettes, transferred to other bamboo-growing nations. The partnership, which was launched at an event on 9 December in Paris, France, will be overseen by INBAR, a China-based intergovernmental organisation that seeks to use bamboo and rattan to reduce poverty and environmental damage. Part of a 20 billion renminbi (US$3.1 billion) fund that China launched in  September to increase South-South cooperation on climate change will be spent on the initiative.
  • Turkmenistan sets date for int’l cotton fair

    TURKMENISTAN, 2015/11/22 The annual exhibition- equitable of cotton products of Turkmenistan will be held November 28-29 this year, said the message of the organizers of the event - the Turkmenpagta National Concern (Turkmen cotton), the National Commodity Exchange and the Chamber of Commerce of Turkmenistan. International conference“Cotton production in Turkmenistan and the world market” will be held within the framework of the event. The Turkmen capital will as well host negotiations between the local cotton and textile producers and foreign consumer partners. Representatives of nearly thirty nations, inclunding the UK, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, China, Germany, USA, Singapore and others took part in the last year's equitable.
  • Special permit of Industrial and Technology Park is granted

    MONGOLIA, 2015/11/15 The Government of Mongolia is granting soft loan in building industrial and technology park to process animal raw material domestically, renewal of equipment and technology, and increase of cash flow. As well additional subsidy is given to herders who sold their animal products (sheep and camel wool) to domestic factories. Within the framework of this policy, “New Asia Group” LLC was granted in return to its request, with the 4 year appropriate permit to run Industrial and Technology Park in Zavkhan aimag, as presented by the Ministry of Industry and Agriculture.
  • Uzbekistan's agricultural sector ups by 6.8%

    UZBEKISTAN, 2015/08/05 Uzbekistan's gross output of agriculture increased by 6.8 % in the initial half of this year, compared to the same period last year. The figures were reported at a board conference of the Uzbekistan Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources held in Tashkent last week. Shukhrat Teshaev, Uzbekistan Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources noted the increase rate of industrial production amounted to 149.0 %, while the increase rate of consumer goods grew by 6.5 %. The country's export of goods was 121.5 % of estimate figures, Teshaev mentioned at the conference.
  • Astana, IFAD mull combating rural poverty in Kazakhstan

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2015/05/24 Kazakhstan's success in combating rural poverty and its new role as an emerging donor were high on the schedule of talks held between the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development and government officials. "IFAD is looking forward to deepening its relationship with Kazakhstan by supporting the implementation of their ‘Agrobusiness 2020’ strategy, in particular the promotion of smallholder farmer engagement to increase productivity and diversify the country’s agricultural economy," Michel Mordasini, IFAD Vice President said on May 21.
