  • Erdogan congratulates Pakistan on Independence Day, vowing to strengthen friendly ties

    PAKISTAN, 2017/08/15 Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday congratulated Pakistan on its 70th anniversary of independence, vowing to boost their friendly ties. "I would like to congratulate the friendly and brotherly country of Pakistan and all the people of Pakistan on August 14 Independence Day," the Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan as saying in a Turkish message posted on his Twitter account.
  • Turkey opens trial of nearly 500 defendants over failed coup

    TURKEY, 2017/08/02 Nearly 500 suspects inclunding army generals and pilots went on trial in Turkey on Tuesday, a lot of of them accused of commanding last year's failed coup attempt from an air base in the capital Ankara. Families of those killed or wounded protested outside the courthouse, with some throwing hangman's nooses or stones toward the defendants as they arrived under tight guard, shouting "murderers" and demanding that the death penalty be reinstated. The government declared a national of emergency next the coup attempt and embarked on a large-scale crackdown that has alarmed Western allies of Ankara, a NATO member and candidate for European Union membership.

    EUROPEAN UNION, 2016/07/25 The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, told France 2 News on Monday that Turkey is no position to become a member of the European Union, due to their current national of affairs. “I believe that Turkey, in its current national, is not in a position to become a member any time any minute at this time and not even over a longer period,” Juncker said on French television France 2.
  • Turkish EU Affairs Minister denies information on visa regime

    EUROPEAN UNION, 2016/01/11 The data that Turkey plans to introduce a visa regime with the 89 nations doesn't correspond to reality, Minister for the EU Affairs of Turkey Volkan Bozkir said, Anadolu agency reported. "We strive to ensure that our citizens from October 2016 could attend the Schengen area without a visa, and continue to work in this direction. This data doesn't correspond to reality. People should trust the statements of the competent authorities", Bozkir said.
  • Kremlin Aide Visits Sokhumi, Discusses Abkhaz Turkish Ties

    GEORGIA, 2016/01/03 Russian President’s aide Vladislav Surkov, who met leaders of breakaway Abkhazia in Sokhumi on December 29, said that he discussed, part other issues, Abkhazia’s relations with Turkey and the need to coordinate policies in this regard. The Abkhaz leadership and opposition parties condemned downing of a Russian fighter jet by Turkey near Turkey-Syria border in November. Abkhaz commentators have been expressing fears over negative consequences of Turkey-Russia tensions on Abkhazia and its economy. Trade with Turkey accounts for 18-20% of breakaway region’s foreign trade turnover; Turkey is destination of about 10% of Abkhaz exports, according to Russian and Abkhaz sources. The breakaway region imports mostly building materials, fuel, food and textile from Turkey; it exports coal, fish and scrap metal.
