Ugandan National Minister for Transport Aggrey Bagaiire on Saturady announced that his government will implement the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) concept in order to decongest the jam-prone City of Kampala.
Mr Bagiire made the announcement next visiting the Dar es Salaam Rapid Transport (DART) project, which has largely improved transport services in the Tanzania commercial capital.

One of Qatar's richest men, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani and other top businessmen in the Gulf, have expressed interest in helping government revive the defunct Uganda Airlines, a national carrier that collapsed nearly two decades ago.
Sunday Monitor understands that a delegation of 25 businessmen and government officials led by Privatisation and Investment minister Evelyn Anite early last week, held closed-door talks with Sheikh Faisal in Doha, and persuaded him to invest in Uganda Airlines.
Sources told Sunday Monitor that the conference with Sheikh Faisal was arranged by President Museveni's kingpin in the Gulf, Dr Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, who the chief of Uganda's Mission in Riyadh but was moved to Iran in the recent reshuffle, although still stationed in Riyadh on a appropriate assignment.

An event dedicated to the development of the African aviation industry will take place next month in Tenerife (26-28 June) to encourage the launch of new air services to, from and within the African continent.
Routes Africa 2016 will help to improve African connectivity by bringing together airlines, airports and tourism authorities to discuss next air services. Around 250 route development professionals are expected to attend the forum which was founded ten years ago to stimulate increase in the industry.

Four pages of urgent recommendations by ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, dominated by the words “inconsistent,” “inefficient,” and “insufficient,” finally tell the story of just how badly the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority performed in the audit on their operations before this year.
It may be recalled that on June 17, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) pulled all Air Operator Certificates sanctioning flights beyond Uganda’s borders, entirely shutting down flights by Ugandan registered airlines across the national borders, but allowed several of the affected airlines to continue domestic operations.

News broke yesterday afternoon that an aero club was recertified next months of working to get their Air Operator’s Certificate back in good standing. This issue has been a bone of contention for completely a long time in Kampala.
Fly Uganda Aero Club has been recertified and given their Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) back. The Kampala Aero Club is the initial of the remaining companies still in business part the Ugandan aviation fraternity, next initial Asante Aviation and again Air Uganda bowed out of the race, the latter next completing four of the five stages of re-certification before throwing in the towel next their entire route network was given away by the same UCAA staff who were responsible for pulling their AOC in the initial place exactly five months ago.
“In a civilized regulatory environment, and regional regulators have privately agreed to this, would the UCAA have given temporary AOCs until the process of re-certification under new rules was completed. However, they chose to cover their a**** to avoid being cited by ICAO, and no all of misleading the public by their mouthpieces can make that fact go away. I admire the Aero Club boys to have spent all that money and effort to be recertified at the same time as they had not broken one policy, had not one safety infringement, and were plain and simple victims of a regulatory regime gone bonkers and rogue.

The KLM Kampala office confirmed that effective 28th of October three of the presently daily flights will be de-linked from the stopover in Kigali and become nonstop services.
Ugandans traveling abroad, or returning home and visitors from across the KLM and SkyTeam network will save precious time at the same time as they choose to fly with KLM to Entebbe on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The airline chose to make the announcement to coincide with its 95th birthday –HAPPY BIRTHDAY KLM – which will be suitable celebrated not just in Kampala but around the world KLM destinations, which stretch from Amsterdam across Europe, America, the Middle East and Asia.

Next taking delivery of three brand-new General Electric locomotives before this month, out of a total of 20 ordered, Rift Valley Railways (RVR) yesterday confirmed that they have secured a US$20 million loan facility from Standard Bank of South Africa and CFC Stanbic Bank to complete payments for the delivery of the new locomotives, all of which are due to have joined the fleet by April next year.
RVR itself will inject US$5 million from internal sources into the purchase transaction which is the initial for new locomotives in decades next former rail operators Kenya Railways and Uganda Railways had failed to modernize and upgrade crucial assets.

On July 25 President Yoweri Museveni held a crisis conference at his country home in Rwakitura with government officials over the roughly US$ 8 billion (Shs 20.8 trillion) railway transaction.

A regular source close to the UCAA has confirmed that a full scale review and update of the Civil Aviation Authority’s 20-year strategic plan has been launched by the Uganda Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
With traffic last year rising to over 1.4 million passengers, the country’s major airport, Entebbe International, has been reaching capacity limits during peak periods, often giving a less than favorable impression on departing passengers, made worse by the arguably worst security set up in all region which compels passengers to carry their luggage from the distant parking area to the entrance of the departure gate.
