  • Georgia: Ivanishvili On New PM, Controversial Judge Reappointment And His Role In Next Elections

    GEORGIA, 2016/01/03 Georgia’s ex-PM Bidzina Ivanishvili said he is personally involved in compiling party-inventory of MP candidates of the Georgian Dream (GD) ruling coalition and wants to have “new faces” in next parliament to be elected in October, 2016. In an interview with “2030” program on GDS, Tbilisi-based television channel owned by his son, Bera, Ivanishvili said that he will be involved very actively in GD’s activities ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections. In the same interview He as well spoke about recent changes in the government and controversial decision of the High Council of Justice to reappoint the Girgvliani case judge. Asked if he will as well be involved in compiling GD’s party inventory of MP candidates, Ivanishvili responded: “Yes, I will. I will participate in everything of course.”

    GEORGIA, 2015/04/06 Georgia has presented its Annual National Program 2015 to NATO member-states and the bloc's allies in a appropriate conference at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Georgia’s Initial Deputy National Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Archil Karaulashvili presented the document at the NATO-Georgia Commission conference at the level of deputy ambassadors. The ANP is a appropriate document that reflects Georgia's short-term to medium-term strategy, covering various issues ranging from military reforms to foreign and security policies and economic developments. It is considered as a NATO integration instrument, which reflects all necessary reforms that assist in bringing Georgia closer to NATO standards.

    GEORGIA, 2014/01/06 This decision was made in Brussels where the 40th conference of the permanent council of European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) was held, the Georgian Economy Ministry told Trend on Jan.3. A festive reception was held during the conference at the same time as the Director General of the organisation Frank Brenner and Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Natia Mikeladze made statements. Brenner congratulated Georgia for accession to EUROCONTROL and stated that the country has done much to integrate its navigation system into the European system thereby improving flight safety in Georgia.

    GEORGIA, 2013/10/28 Georgi Margvelashvili, a onetime mountain guide who forged a reputation in politics as a moderate voice of reason, won the presidential election in Georgia on Sunday with backing from the prime minister's ruling coalition. By late Sunday local time, Margvelashvili was leading with 66.7% of the vote, according to exit polls conducted by the German polling agency GFK, prompting his major opponent to concede. The 44-year-old Margvelashvili had the backing of powerful Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili and his Georgian Dream ruling coalition. He had been serving as minister of education and science in Ivanishvili's government.
