  • Istanbul Forum set to tap into Africa's economic potential

    TURKEY, 2016/11/02 About 1,200 African businesspeople are set to visit Istanbul to meet their Turkish counterparts in a platform aiming to create a long-lasting cooperation. The Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum will be held in Istanbul tomorrow International business leaders will meet for two days in Istanbul Tuesday at the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum, which highlights Turkey's strategy to enhance bilateral trade and economic relations with the African continent. Around 1,200 African businesspeople are expected to attend the program. The forum, jointly organized by the Turkish Ministry of Economy, the African Union Commission, the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), aims to provide a platform for the business circles of Turkey and African nations to create a long-lasting cooperation, according to the forum's official website.

  • Sephardic community summit in Madrid, Avila and Toledo 3rd biennal, after Bulgaria and Turkey

    ISRAEL, 2015/05/02 The over 70 participants of the Erensya World Summit of Sephardic communities in the diaspora arrived in Toledo on Thursday. The event was organized by the Sefarad-Israel Center, a cultural entity under the foreign ministry, and is an event that takes place each two years. The meetings in Avila, Madrid and Toledo between April 27 and May 2 aim to establish bridges between Spain and the Sephardic communities, sources from the organization. At this third edition, next ones held in 2011 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and in 2013 in Istanbul and Smyrna in Turkey, representatives from the Sephardic communities of Cairo, Jerusalem, Belgrade, Sofia, Sarajevo, Istanbul, Paris, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago del Chile, Panama and Mexico Federal District are taking part.

    TURKEY, 2014/09/29 Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, called for a three-pronged strategy that would ensure a no-fly zone, a safe area for people fleeing conflict in the region and a program to train and equip groups in Syria and Iraq. The Turkish President delivered the keynote address to open the World Economic Forum Appropriate Conference on Unlocking Resources for Regional Development, taking place in Istanbul on 28-29 September. Welcoming the resolve of the international community to act decisively, Erdoğan called for efforts to target not just groups in Iraq but as well in Syria. “Air strikes alone are not enough. There must be a ground dimension with the Iraqi army and the Pashmerga to the fore. If other nations can support that effort, so much the better”, he said. In addition to Turkey’s efforts to protect its southern border, the President underscored the burden his country is bearing to support a refugee people that presently tops 1.5 million. He noted the discrepancy between the $150 million his country has received from the international community and the much higher all that Turkey has provided to the refugee programme.

    ITALY, 2014/02/21 Turkey has decided it will not take part anymore in the Expo 2015 in Milan next year, Italy's ambassador to Ankara, Gianpaolo Scarante, told ANSA over the phone. Scarante was confirming a statement published Thursday by Turkish daily Hurriyet. ''We have learned over the completed few days with amaze and disappointment about the decision of Turkish authorities not to participate in Expo 2015'', said Scarante. According to the ambassador, the recent difficulties of the lira on international markets and the current economic situation in Turkey are the reasons behind Ankara's decision. ''We nevertheless hope that Ankara's decision can be reviewed in order to ensure at Expo 2015 the presence of an significant country such as Turkey'', concluded Scarante, who recalled the excellent relations between the two nations, reconfirmed by Turkish President Abdullah Gul's visit to Rome at the end of January.
