    TAIWAN AREA, 2013/09/07 The International Medical Tourism Forum opened Aug. 6 in Taipei City, underscoring the strength of the local sector and wealth of opportunities stemming from expanded cross-strait economic exchanges. Organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the daylong gathering attracted additional than 550 participants from home and abroad. It was the fourth event of its kind since the forum commenced in 2010. “Regulatory liberalization on both sides of the Taiwan Strait has created the perfect conditions for developing cross-strait medical tourism,” said Wang Chen-fu, chief secretary of the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs.

    CHINA, 2013/04/07 President Ma Ying-jeou said yesterday that mainland China's leadership transition makes this year's Boao Forum for Asia particularly worth taking part in, so that Taiwan can learn additional about the newest developments across the strait. The 12th Boao Forum for Asia will be held from April 6 to 8 in mainland China's Hainan province. Taiwan's delegation will be headed by former Vice President Vincent Siew. Ma yesterday met members of the delegation at the Presidential Office.

    TAIWAN AREA, 2012/12/22 The Taipei Auto Show, which started yesterday, is expected to attract 200,000 visitors this year, up from 183,515 visitors to the previous show held in 2010, according to a preparatory committee of the biennial show. There were 34,000 visitors at the show yesterday, up from 29,800 visitors on the first day of the 2010 show, said Tina Lin (林曉美), a public relations officer of the committee. While Saab will not join the show this year, the event has still drawn 24 car vendors with 30 brands exhibiting their new models at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1. Lin said car distributors appeared to be additional willing to offer bigger discounts this year because of the current weak market sentiment.
