Ms Machel, the founder of the Graca Machel Trust, said this during the closing of an eight-day conference in the city which was aimed at empowering communities to tackle development challenges.

The office of South African President Jacob Zuma on Sunday said critical developmental issues were tabled at the summit, which brought together leaders from the world's major economies, inclunding the European Union.
  • Commemoration of Africa Human Rights Day

    BOTSWANA, 2016/10/22 oday, the African People commemorate the Africa Human Rights Day across the continent under the theme “Women Rights – Our Collective Responsibility”. On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Aisha Laraba Abdullahi, Commissioner for Political Affairs issued a statement on behalf of H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission describing this year’s theme as timely and appropriate. Timely in the sense that it coincides with the Declaration of the African Union’s Heads of National and Government of “2016 as the African Year of Human Rights with Particular Focus on the Rights of Women”. It is, therefore, a clarion call on Africa to do additional to promote women’s rights, particularly the rights to development. It is in this context that the African Union Commission has concluded that the AHRD theme for this year is a reflection of a ray of hope that through empowerment of women in Africa, sustainable peace and development will be ushered in.
  • Obama Chides African Leaders Who Cling to Power

    BOTSWANA, 2015/07/29 Barack Obama has chided African leaders who refuse to give up power in his initial speech at the African Union headquarters by a US president. The scolding came in the course of his address on Tuesday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to the 54-member continental bloc. "Africa's democratic evolution is as well at risk at the same time as leaders refuse to step aside at the same time as their terms end," Obama said. "No one should be president for life."

    BAHRAIN, 2015/07/10 Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei announced at the press conference: Upon agreement of China and the League of Arab States, the 6th ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum will be held in Beijing on June 5. Foreign ministers or representatives from China and Arab states inclunding the Secretary-General of the Arab League will attend the conference.

    EGYPT, 2014/10/09 Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab has paid a visit on Tuesday 7/10/2014 to Ismailia to follow up the ongoing work at the new Suez Canal project and congratulated the workers on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Upon his arrival, Mahlab held a conference with Suez Canal Authority Chief Mohab Mamish and a number of officials, inclunding Ismailia Governor Ahmed el-Qassas, Chief of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Emad el-Alfy and Chief of Staff of the Engineering Authority Kamel el-Wazir, to get acquainted with the new developments in the project and the work plan scheduled to be implemented during the coming period.

    EUROPEAN UNION, 2014/03/22 Libyan artist, Dr. Maatouk Abou Rawi, is holding an exhibition at the seat of the Euro-Arab Foundation for higher education in the southern Spanish city of Grenade on the theme, “Immortalizing the Arab spring victims”. The artist says that the exhibition, which 'immortalises the Arab revolutions, thirsting for democracy, freedom and social justice', completes the initial exhibition hosted by the same foundation in 2012, which was dedicated to the 'Illegal migrants having the dream to entering Europe'.

    ITALY, 2014/03/05 The 2nd international conference to support Libya due on Thursday in Rome, Italy, is meant to mobilise international community in favour of Tripoli at this crucial phase of the country, a senior foreign ministry official said on Monday. Deputy Minister in charge of political affairs at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ms Wafa Aboukaikis, said the conference would help to build a modern, efficient and sovereign Libya, based on the principles on law and human rights.
