  • Nigerian govt. suspends licence issuance for new vehicle assembly plants

    NIGERIA, 2015/10/31 The Federal Government has suspended issuance of licence to new vehicle assembly plants. Aminu Jalal, the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday. Mr. Jalal said the action was to enable the council to consolidate the country’s vehicle assembly operations and concentrate on developing local content. He explained that the suspension did not apply to investment in original equipment manufacturing (OEM), adding that applicants for OEM license would not be affected.
  • Nigeria: Local Content Policy Should Boost Local Production

    NIGERIA, 2015/01/30 The Managing Director of Schneider Electric, Mr. Walid Sheta, has said the country has great opportunity to diversify its economy and generate significant revenue through its local content policy. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos recently, Sheta, whose portfolio covers Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Liberia, said the ICT local content policy that was introduced by the federal government in 2013, should be able to lead to industrial increase for the country. "Today, most elements in the manufacturing sector are imported and it will be good if the local content is implemented to increase the local part of production. This will improve the diversification of the industrial part of the economy and could absorb the result of the drop of crude oil prices. We believe that the local content policy should encourage additional local manufacturing that can boost the Nigerian economy, aside oil," Sheta said.

The request is very high that the available producers in the country cannot satisfy the market. Apart from local buyers, all Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) sub region relies all on Nigerians for their plastic wares. This is not surprising because all the raw materials for production of quality plastic products are locally available and at affordable prices.
