Austria's factory sector activity expanded in August, survey results published by Markit Economics revealed Thursday.
The headline seasonally adjusted purchasing managers' index rose to 52 in August from 49.1 in July. This signaled the initial monthly development in operating conditions since June 2012.
Readings above 50 indicate expansion of the sector while reading below 50 suggests contraction.

Austria's manufacturing sector contracted at the sharpest rate in additional than three years in October, owing to steep falls in new orders and output, data from a survey by Bank Austria and Markit Economics showed Tuesday.
The seasonally adjusted purchasing managers' index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector dropped to 44.8 in October from 45.1 in September, marking the sharpest deterioration in operating conditions since June 2009. The index has decreased for the eighth consecutive month, and remained below the non-change 50 mark - which separates increase from contraction - for the fourth month in a row.
