Bangladesh fires up large-scale solar to boost power generation
BANGLADESH, 2015/11/23 The government of Bangladesh has approved construction of a large-scale solar park as part of a push to increase the share of power from renewable sources in this electricity-starved country. The new solar park, which is due to begin generating within the next 18 months, will supply up to 200 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid. Sun Edison Energy Holding (Singapore) Pte Ltd will build the park in Teknaf sub-district, the southernmost point in mainland Bangladesh. The solar power will be cheaper than electricity from conventional power stations. The tariff rate has been fixed at Tk 13.26 per kilowatt/hour ($0.17), two-thirds the price of electricity generated by oil-fuelled plants. -
Asia Pacific governments reduce dependence on fossil fuels
WESTERN ASIA, 2013/07/03 As request for energy increases in Asia Pacific, governments across the region intensify efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and instead are searching for renewable energy sources. Part the renewable energy sources, solar power seems to be the brightest star at the three-day Clean Energy Expo Asia 2012 in Bangkok. “Solar power is the next of energy. The sun shines each day from morning till night and I have been developing solar power in Thailand for the last three years,” said Wandee Khunchornyakong, chairwoman and CEO of SPCG Public Company Limited. -

President inaugurates country’s first windmill project
PAKISTAN, 2012/12/25 President Asif Ali Zardari inaugurated the country’s first windmill project in Jhimpir, Thatta, on Monday. The Fauji Fertilizer Company Energy Limited’s (FFCEL) project will contribute 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national transmission grid. The wind farm comprises 33 German-made turbines, each with the capacity to produce 1.5MW of energy. While addressing the ceremony, President Zardari said the government has planned to increase power production from wind and solar sources. “The corridor from Jhimpir to Gharo offers great potential for the use of clean energy,” he observed. -
The first wind power generation project in Pakistan
PAKISTAN, 2012/12/25 The first wind power generation project in Pakistan has recently been recognised by Project Finance Magazine. Turkish-based Zorlu Group showed interest to set up the first wind farm in Pakistan. To turn this into a reality, the company decided to open a subsidiary in Pakistan called Zorlu Energy. -
The Sixth BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change Held in New Delhi
INDIA, 2011/01/27 On February 26-27, the Sixth BASIC Ministerial Conference on Climate Change was held in New Delhi, India. Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China led the Chinese delegation and attended the conference . The ministers exchanged views on key issues addressing the climate change and reached broad consensus. Next the conference , the ministers met the press and declared the joint statement.
