  • Oil has been found in the north of Republika Srpska

    BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, 2015/05/05 Oil deposits have been discovered in the northern part of Republika Srpska, RS, but the quantities appear insufficient for profitable exploration, the entity Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Petar Djokic, told the media. The potential for oil exploration in Republika Srpska has been researched since 2011 by Jadran-Naftagas, a joint company established by the Serbian and Russian oil companies, NIS and Zarubezhneft. They discovered oil deposits in the northern part of RS near the village of Obudovac, but additional research is needed to ascertain whether there is enough oil there for exploration, Djokic said.

  • Grid operators meet in Rome to discuss Med project

    ITALY, 2014/11/19 The general extraordinary session of the Association of Mediterranean Transmission System Operators (Med-TSO) reiterated on Tuesday the importance of electricity for Euro-Mediterranean security and integration. MED-TSO unites network operators from 17 nations in the area. The statement for the presentation of the conference in the Italian capital notes that utilities - energy, electricity and water - are ''the key to a new direction based on jobs''. ''Producing, transporting and using energy are activities vital to the economy and well-being of all populations.'' The assembly, ahead of the High Level energy Conference to be held by the Italian 6-month EU presidency on Wednesday at the foreign ministry, presented the three-time'Mediterranean Project' set to begin in 2015. The initiative will support infrastructure projects as a means towards integrating management of the power grids between the northern and southern Mediterranean, the very reason why Med-TSO was established in 2012.
  • Cyprus: Delek extends tender offer for supply of natural gas

    CYPRUS, 2014/08/20 Israel's Delek Group announced that its gas subsidiaries have accepted a request from the Cyprus national gas distributor DEFA to postpone the period of validity of the proposition and acceptance in its terms of a binding agreement for the supply of natural gas, from August 15 to November 30 as Financial Mirror online reported. DEFA launched on January 25 an open competition for the supply of natural gas, for a period of up to ten years, commencing January 1, 2016.

    GREECE, 2014/06/04 A Greek government committee on Monday gave the green light for 12 energy projects with a total budget of 7.5 billion euros to be licensed through the fast-track process, as daily Kathimerini online reported. Conference under Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis, the Ministerial Committee for Strategic Investments decided to fast-track investments expected to create a total of 17,000 jobs while helping Greece to enhance the security of its energy supply and from presently on see it evolving into an energy hub. The projects include the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and the ITGI pipeline network to transmit natural gas across northern Greece toward Italy; the interconnection of the grids of Israel, Cyprus and Greece; the Interconnection Greece-Bulgaria project to link the two nations' gas transmission networks; and a pipeline to carry natural gas from a Cypriot offshore area to the Greek mainland via Crete.
  • ENI says Libya terminal under attack

    ITALY, 2013/11/08 The CEO of Italian energy giant ENI said a major gas terminal in Libya that is linked to Greenstream pipeline was under attack, but stressed he did not estimate "supply problems" for Italy. "In the last few hours the Mellitah terminal, from where the Greenstream pipeline to Sicily starts, is under attack," ENI CEO Paolo Scaroni said.
  • Athens, Tel Aviv sign deal to deepen cooperation

    ISRAEL, 2013/10/15 Greece and Israel signed a joint declaration last week that further enhances their cooperation in the energy sector and acts as a guide for the development of relations of wider geopolitical significance for the two Mediterranean nations. The declaration signed by Greek Energy Minister Yiannis Maniatis and his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom, provides for additional cooperation in the fields of natural gas inclunding of renewable energy sources in the context of international and European organizations.

    CROATIA, 2013/09/05 Authorities in Kazakhstan are at loggerheads with business executives over a plan to introduce a carbon dioxide trading scheme for companies generating greenhouse gas emissions. The government sees two benefits to the scheme -- a healthier environment and additional revenue for national coffers. But leaders of the country's business community, inclunding KazEnergy, a powerful alliance of energy producers, is opposing the plan, arguing that it would stifle economic increase and decrease Kazakh world competitiveness. Left largely unsaid is what the government would do with the additional revenue. In Transparency International’s most recent corruption index, Kazakhstan ranked 133 out of the 174 nations surveyed.

    GREECE, 2013/08/21 Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has written to Russian President Vladimir Putin, it emerged on Monday, to ask for gas giant Gazprom to reduce the price at which it supplies Greece, which pays roughly 30% additional than the European average for its natural gas. The daily newspaper Kathimerini reported that sources said that in his letter, which was sent a few weeks ago, Samaras stressed the importance of energy prices in helping Greece become additional competitive. Greece's current arrangement with Gazprom runs through 2016.

    CYPRUS, 2013/08/12  Israel, Greece and Cyprus on Wednesday signed an agreement in Nicosia for the linking of their electricity grids via a 2,000-megawatt underwater cable - known as the EuroAsia Interconnector, which is part of the European Union's Projects of Common Interest plan, daily Kathimerini reports. Israeli Energy Minister Sylvan Shalom hailed the signing of a memorandum of considerate on issues of energy and water resources between the three nations as ''of historic significance.'' He said relations between Israel and Cyprus were better than ever and that the memorandum will further strengthen them.
