The US will probably maintain its current levels of aid to Africa despite President Donald Trump’s proposals to slash funding, according to Bill Gates, the world’s richest man.
Trump said in May his government would no longer allocate funding for family planning, a move that has the potential to undermine aid programs in the poorest nations in the world. However, with Congress in control of the budget, it’s unlikely that all cuts proposed by the Trump government will go ahead next year, Gates said in an interview in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial capital.

Former president Joyce Banda would surrender to police once a warrant of arrest is served on her, her spokesperson has said following disclosure by Malawi police of an arrest warrant over alleged abuse of office and money laundering offences over a two-year period at the same time as she was in office.
Andekuche Chamthuya, Banda's spokesperson, said his office is from presently on to get the warrant of arrest which the police say has been issued.
"I have been to the police to get the warrant of arrest but I have been tossed from one office to an extra," Chamthunya, a trained lawyer, said.

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Grace Chiumia has said a dubious Indian investor who was deported will not be allowed approaching back.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services in May deported Chandrashaker Additional, who owes the public tax collector K20 million, and had as well racially insulted Police officers at the court calling them "poor plebs".

Eight people are said to have died while at dozens others are feared to be injured in a stampede that has happened at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, SABC News' Mweli Masilela has reported.
According to the statement, seven of the fatalities include children, some as young as six years old.

In the wake of a boycott call by the Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA), of South African shops and businesses, major South African outlets like Game, PEP and Shoprite closed shops in Blantyre and Lilongwe.
This despite a seemingly stuttering start in Malawi's Capital, Lilongwe before in the morning as Shoprite and other shops remained opened before from presently on closing later.
Shoprite had only operated until 10:20 AM at the same time as the police, shop management and civil society leaders agreed to close it instantaneously for fear of sparking violence.

Police fired several rounds of teargas to disperse frustrated voters who vented their anger on electoral staff following delays in starting polling at some centres. “We have been here as early as 4am but this is 11 o’clock but we haven’t started voting from presently on,” said a young man identified as Frackson at a polling station in the densely-populated town of Nkolokoti.
Reports of delayed voting were replicated in at least five polling stations in the city. At Nkolokoti, young men started pelting the polling staff with stones. Things turned ugly at the same time as police fired teargas to disperse the irate crowd which outnumbered the about 50 heavily-armed police officers.
They retreated for re-enforcements. In between it was an all-out battle as the polling staff, mainly young ladies, fled for dear life. The crowd again started attacking the polling materials, smashing laptop computers, printers, scanners and solar panels. They as well destroyed polling booths and ballot boxes.

A British forensic audit statement on Malawi's "Cashgate" scandal has been turned over to the government. The statement is expected to detail how additional than $250 million of taxpayers' money was looted from government coffers between April and September of last year in what is known as the Cashgate scandal.
The statement was originally set for publication on February 14, but Malawi's National Audit Office announced Wednesday that it wanted to delay release until March 18 so the document would conform to international standards.
