Destinations worldwide welcomed 598 million international tourists in the initial six months of 2017, some 36 million additional than in the same period of 2016. At 6%, increase was well above the trend of recent years, making the current January-June period the strongest half-year since 2010.
Visitor numbers reported by destinations around the world reflect strong request for international travel in the initial half of 2017, according to the new UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. Worldwide, international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) increased by 6% compared to the same six-month period last year, well above the sustained and consistent trend of 4% or higher increase since 2010. This represents the strongest half-year in seven years.

Market Research Company Euromonitor International revealed before this week the key trends shaping travel and tourism in Africa at the 41st Annual World Tourism Conference in Kigali, Rwanda.
According to Euromonitor International’s new data, international arrivals to Africa grew by 6.5 % in 2017, to reach 18,550 million, up from 16,351 million in 2012. Key markets such as South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, Cameroon, Mauritius and Tanzania accounted for 70 % of international trips to the Sub-Saharan African region.

A moratorium on large hotel projects in Seychelles, specifically on Mahe and the inner islands, was announced by former President James Michel in his address on the occasion of Seychelles’ National Day which falls on June 29, 2015.
The Seychelles Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine has published a inventory of hotels which was approved before the moratorium on new large hotels in the country came into force. Members of the local media were presented with the inventory yesterday afternoon during a press conference held at the ministry’s headquarters, Espace building.

As is customary with all inaugural flights landing at the Seychelles International Airport, the Sri Lanka Airlines airbus arriving at Seychelles for the initial time, received a water cannon salute upon arrival.
Seychelles welcomed this new airline this week, only two days next Turkish Airlines landed at its international airport for the initial time. This morning marked Sri Lankan Airlines’ maiden flight to the Seychelles.

As the new President of Seychelles continues for set up his own Cabinet and Ministers, he as well made some changes at the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB).
President Danny Faure announced the following changes in the Seychelles Tourism Board members.
Mrs. Kathy Mason will replace Mrs. Wendy Pierre as Chairperson of STB. Mrs. Mason will as well replace Mr. Rod Thorrington as one of the four private sector members on the board.

The Seychelles Tourism Industry were in India last week on what they called a Tourism Promotional Roadshow that took them to Chennai and as well to Bangalore. This Promotional Roadshow was a followup to similar events but a year ago in Delhi and Mumbai and the aim of this drive into India was for the tropical islands of the Seychelles to increase its visibility in order to remain relevant as a holiday option for the Indian holiday makers.

Keeping the steadily increasing numbers of Israeli tourists to the Seychelles archipelago on an upward trend has been named as one of the top priorities in diplomatic relations between the two nations.
This announcement was made as a new Israeli ambassador to the Seychelles, Yahel Vilan, presented his credentials to the archipelago's President, James Michel, on Tuesday at National Home in the Seychelles capital of Victoria.
Ambassador Vilan is the 7th non-resident ambassador to be accredited to the Seychelles since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations on June 30, 1992, replacing former Ambassador Gil Haskel, who was appointed in October 2011. The post is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
