  • UNWTO: International tourism – strongest half-year results since 2010

    AFGHANISTAN, 2017/09/09 Destinations worldwide welcomed 598 million international tourists in the initial six months of 2017, some 36 million additional than in the same period of 2016. At 6%, increase was well above the trend of recent years, making the current January-June period the strongest half-year since 2010. Visitor numbers reported by destinations around the world reflect strong request for international travel in the initial half of 2017, according to the new UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. Worldwide, international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) increased by 6% compared to the same six-month period last year, well above the sustained and consistent trend of 4% or higher increase since 2010. This represents the strongest half-year in seven years.
  • International Arrivals To Africa Reach More Than 18 Million In 2017

    BOTSWANA, 2017/09/09 Market Research Company Euromonitor International revealed before this week the key trends shaping travel and tourism in Africa at the 41st Annual World Tourism Conference in Kigali, Rwanda. According to Euromonitor International’s new data, international arrivals to Africa grew by 6.5 % in 2017, to reach 18,550 million, up from 16,351 million in 2012. Key markets such as South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, Cameroon, Mauritius and Tanzania accounted for 70 % of international trips to the Sub-Saharan African region.

    KENYA, 2016/11/24 Stronger brand recognition, an improved security climate and higher capacity are driving increase in Kenya’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism segment. Kenya has seen a steady rise in MICE tourist arrivals over the completed few years. In 2015 the country hosted 117,630 foreign arrivals taking part in MICE activities, representing a 13% increase on the 2014 total, and 15.6% of the total number of international tourist arrivals for the year.
  • Kenya's Q1 2016 GDP growth improves, buoyed by tourism

    KENYA, 2016/07/04   Kenya ‘s economy expanded by 5.9 % in the initial quarter of 2016 compared to 5 % in the same period last year. According to the country’s bureau of statistics, the increase is attributed to a rebound in the tourism sector. Tourism is a key foreign exchange earner but has plunged in recent years following a spate of security incidents that kept visitors away from the country.

    CHINA, 2015/10/28 The introduction of direct flights to Kenya and the increased marketing of Nairobi as a tourist destination across China is a positive trend for the increase of Chinese tourists to the East Africa country, tourism markets said recently. Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa said Kenyan tour marketers based in China and local Chinese tour operators are receiving increased requests from Chinese tourists seeking to visit the world famous Masaai Mara National Park and other attraction sites in the East African country. "We have a lot of goodwill from across the world," Ndegwa told Xinhua in an exclusive interview in Nairobi ahead of a major tourism exhibition in Diani, Kenya's coastal region, which has attracted 185 major tourism marketers from around the world, inclunding 10 leading Chinese tour operators.

Kandie said the platform provides an opportunity to market the East African country as a perfect destination for tourists around the globe, and assured the world that Kenya is ready for visitors and open for businesses.
  • UK updated travel advisory to Kenya: hostile propaganda?

    UNITED KINGDOM, 2015/03/28 Within days of a visit by the UK’s Foreign Secretary to Nairobi and Kenya’s refusal to renew a troop training transaction unless the UK agreed to have all troops deployed to Kenya subjected to Kenyan law, the almost predictable backlash came down hard on Kenya’s most vulnerable economic sector - tourism. Normally well-informed sources in Nairobi claim that while an attack on a hotel in Mogadishu had sadly taken place yesterday, this could not be equated to the situation in Kenya itself and that no indication was given to the Kenyan security apparatus by the UK, or other foreign intelligence services operating in Kenya, of any imminent attack or a heightened possibility of such an event.
