  • Israeli company launches Western Hemisphere's largest desalination plant

    ISRAEL, 2015/12/16 Israeli water sector giant IDE Technologies dedicated the major desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere on Monday – a facility that will produce some 190 million liters of water daily for the residents of southern California. Providing a new source of water in a national that has long suffered severe droughts, the Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant will be quenching the thirst of roughly 10 % of San Diego County, according to IDE. Employing advanced pretreatment and seawater reverse osmosis technologies, the plant is able to generate potable water of the highest quality while significantly reducing energy consumption, the company explained. The desalination plant is the result of a 30-year water purchase agreement between the plant’s local developer and owner, Poseidon Water, and the San Diego County Water Authority, a joint statement said. The plant, which will be operated by IDE, has created some 2,500 jobs and generated about $350 million for the local economy, the statement added.

    ISRAEL, 2015/09/29 Intel this week announced a new family of microprocessors that it says will double the performance of new computers over a lot of of those currently in use. The Skylake family of microprocessors was developed at Intel's Haifa research and development lab, local company officials said. Shlomit Weiss, Vice President of Intel's Platform Engineering Group, said in a statement that Skylake is “a game changer that has capabilities that we couldn't even imagine a few years ago."

Ziv Av Engineering (ZAE), one of Israel’s major high-tech products development firms, will design and supply battery switching stations for electrically powered vehicles in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province in Eastern China. ZAE has signed a cooperation agreement with Chinese company Bustil (BYD), which holds the franchise for charging and switching batteries on electric vehicles in the city.

  • Israel Chemicals' Dead Sea Works potash plant in Sodom

    ISRAEL, 2015/03/30 Israel Chemicals said on Friday it had made a $137 million Canadian dollars ($109.5 million) offer to buy Canada’s Allana Potash, a transaction it hopes will accelerate development of a mine in Ethiopia. ICL by presently owns 16.36% of Allana, whose Danakhil project in northeast Ethiopia could yield up to 1 million tons of muriate, the commodity form of potash, per year for 25 years. It will pay 50 Canadian cents per share for the remaining shares. The offer is a 51.5% premium to Allana’s closing price on Thursday, prior to the offer being announced. On Friday, Allana shares jumped 44% to 47.5 Canadian cents in Toronto. ICL shares edged 0.43% higher in New York for the day.

    ISRAEL, 2013/02/22 President Mooly Eden said the company accounted for 20 % of Israel’s high-tech exports last year and 10 % of its industrial exports, excluding diamonds. Intel Israel was responsible for a third of Israel’s exports to China. “Were it not for Intel’s improved performance last year, Israel’s high-tech exports would have fallen by 10 %,” he said at the company’s annual press conference.
