  • Africa's Infrastructure Spending Drops

    ANGOLA, 2017/08/20 Africa's infrastructure investment spending decreased in 2016 compared 2015, according to Deloitte 2016 African construction trends statement. In 2016, 286 projects worth 50m and additional were being built in Africa, down from 301 in 2015. The fall in in general capital price was $51bn — from a total of $375bn in 2015 to a total of 324bn in 2016.The statement, released on Tuesday, said there were 109 projects worth a total of $140bn in Southern Africa in 2015. For 2016, project numbers had fallen to 85, worth $93bn. “Africa has seen a downturn in both the number and price of projects included this year, in contrast to previous years,” said Jean-Pierre Labuschagne, Deloitte Africa infrastructure and capital projects leader.
  • Chinese bank grants loan to Angola for construction of Soyo power plant

    CHINA, 2017/01/23 The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China will provide a loan of US$837 million for the construction of a combined cycle power plant in Soyo, Angola, an all equivalent to 85% of the cost, according to a government document. The document quoted by Portuguese news agency Lusa said the agreement between the government of Angola and the Chinese bank had been signed in the initial half of 2016, two years next the work began.

This was announced by the minister of Former Combatants and Motherland Veterans, Kundi Paihama, at the same time as addressing the major act of the celebrations of the 53 years of the beginning of the armed struggle for the national liberation. The information is contained in the National Development Plan, a Government-drafted document made available to Angop. According to the source, the NDP will also cover the construction and equipping of six Polytechnic Institutes and seven Administration and Management Technical Institutes.

    ANGOLA, 2014/01/06 Ndalatando city, capital of the northern Kwanza Norte province, will benefit by March 2014 from the construction of a new town comprised by 4000 flats, under a project of the central government aimed to eliminate the housing deficit in the province. This was said to Angop on the Monday by provincial deputy-governor for technical and infrastructural affairs, Erlindo Ernesto Lidador. He said that the preliminary works for the construction of the new town is by presently underway, particularly for topographical reconfirmation, targeting the launch of the work within the deadlines. The official said that the arrangement under the responsibility of Sonangol Real Estate Company (SONIP) comprises an area of 400 hectares where it will be built three to five floors buildings.
