  • Uzbekistan ends construction of major chemical complex

    UZBEKISTAN, 2015/08/08 Completion of Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex (GCC) construction in Uzbekistan is scheduled for September 2015, Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan Lee Wook-heon said in an interview with the Uzbek National News Agency (UzA). He said that the joint construction of Ustyurt GCC on the base of the Surgil field worth $4 billion is one example of fruitful Uzbek-Korean cooperation. As before reported, in February 2008 Uzbekneftegaz and a consortium of Korean companies Kor-Uz Gas Chemical Investment established on a parity basis JV Uz-Kor GasChemical for the project for the construction of Ustyurt GCC on the Surgil field. The consortium of Korean companies currently includes Kogas, Honam, and STX Energy.
  • Uzbekistan again says 'no' to Rogun HPP

    UZBEKISTAN, 2015/08/05 Uzbekistan has reiterated its position on the construction of the Rogun hydro power plant in Tajikistan. The country's foreign ministry said that the Uzbek side before stated its principle position at a conference of the government representatives of Central Asian nations to discuss the draft Work Bank statement titled “Key issues for further consideration of proposed project Rogun hydro power station and issues of use of trans-boundary water resources,” which was held in Almaty on July 14-18, 2014. Commenting on Tajikistan's Energy and Water Resources Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda's statement on July 22 – that there are no official complaints from Uzbekistan on the results of evaluation of international experts on the Rogun project – the ministry responded by publishing the full text of a statement by Uzbek delegation chief Rustam Azimov, in which he said that the construction of Rogun HPP does not meet commonly adopted international standards.
  • Uzbekistan to direct $10 billion for transport projects until 2020

    UZBEKISTAN, 2015/01/30 Uzbekistan will direct about $10 billion for projects on development of roads and railways, logistics centers and communications over the next five years, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers. In total, the implementation of over 150 projects is provided within the program of development and modernization of production infrastructure in Uzbekistan for 2015-2019. The implementation of 13 investment projects for the development and electrification of railway communications, inclunding Angren-Pap, Marokand-Karshi, Karshi-Termez, Marokand-Bukhara directions will be under appropriate control of the government.
