  • The construction sector will be needed to rebuild after recent flooding

    UNITED KINGDOM, 2016/01/06 Britain’s construction sector bounced back in December and the country's builders are set to enjoy solid increase over the year ahead, in part because of the need to rebuild next widespread flooding this winter devastated a lot of parts of the country. A closely followed survey of the economic health of the UK's construction firms showed that the sector rebounded in December from November’s seven-month low. The puchasing managers' index compiled by Markit, which tracks business conditions, rose from 55.3 to 57.8, well ahead of the 56 figure analysts were expecting. Any number above 50 would imply that the sector grew in December.

    QATAR, 2014/11/19 Qatar is interested in investing billions of dollars in infrastructure around the north of England, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. The statement claimed the Qatari royal family has informed British ministers it is interested in investing in infrastructure opportunities around the new HS2 high-speed rail line, which will link London to Birmingham, again Leeds and Manchester. The opportunity was discussed last month at the same time as the emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met with British Prime Minister David Cameron last month.
  • Dubai plans $250m expansion of European-style shopping strip

    UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 2014/03/06 UK builder Carillion’s joint venture business in the UAE, Al Futtaim Carillion, has been awarded a £150m ($250.66m) arrangement by Meraas to build The Avenue Phase 2 City Walk development in Dubai. In an announcement to the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday, Carillion said the arrangement included the construction, commissioning, testing and completion of the estimated 1 million square foot second phase of “a high-quality family entertainment and retail development”. Al Futtaim Carillion completed the initial phase of City Walk, in Jumeirah, in 2013, with the project officially launched in December.
  • The volume of output in the British construction sector

    UNITED KINGDOM, 2013/07/13 The volume of output in the British construction sector continued to decline in May, and at a faster rate than in the previous month, new figures from the Office for National Statistics showed Friday. The seasonally adjusted construction output fell 4.8 % on an annual basis in May, which was notably faster than the 2.3 % fall seen in April. The sector recorded contraction for the seventeenth successive month.
