  • Brazil's oil company Petrobras to sell assets in Paraguay

    BRAZIL, 2017/07/10 Brazil's national-owned oil company Petrobras announced Friday it will sell all its assets in Paraguay, as part of its plan to divest assets worth 21 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 and 2018 to try to lower its high deficit. In a statement, Petrobras said it would sell its shares in the following subsidiaries, Petrobras Paraguay distribution Limited, Petrobras Paraguay Operaciones y Logistica SRL and Petrobras Paraguay Gas SRL.
  • Petrobras writedown may give new ammunition to class-action suit

    BRAZIL, 2015/05/04 Brazilian oil company Petrobras’ $17 billion write-down, announced last week, may have been meant to close the accounting on a sprawling corruption scandal, but could instead provide fresh ammunition for a US class action lawsuit. The case, filed in Manhattan federal court in December by a group of large investors, alleges $98 billion of the company’s American depository shares, or ADRs, and bonds were artificially inflated since 2010 by the company overstating the price of assets such as major projects. Petrobras has moved to have the case dismissed.

    BRAZIL, 2014/01/10 Brazilian domestic airline Azul Linhas Aereas pledged on Wednesday to cap the cost of traveling during the World Cup this year, adding to pressure on competitors who have been upbraided by the government for raising ticket prices. None of the routes that Azul flies during the tournament will cost additional than 999 reais ($420), said Azul founder David Neeleman, who started Brazil's third-biggest airline next stepping down as CEO of JetBlue in 2008. The policy will cost Azul some 20 million reais in foregone revenue, Neeleman told journalists in Sao Paulo. He said the World Cup would as well have a net negative impact on the carrier's bottom line due to a dropoff in business travel.
