  • Turkmenistan intends to sign the Paris climate agreement

    FRANCE, 2016/08/28 Turkmenistan intends to sign the Paris climate agreement, the Turkmen government said August 27. According to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s decree, Rashid Meredov, Turkmen foreign minister, deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, will sign the document.
  • Turkmenistan concerned over Caspian Sea ecological state

    TURKMENISTAN, 2016/05/28 Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, during his visit to Avaza tourist zone located in the east side of the Caspian Sea, mentioned that the environmental conditions of the Caspian Sea and protection of its biodiversity should be kept under the constant control. Being one of the fastest growing geopolitical and economic centers of Eurasia, the Caspian Sea is threatened by extreme levels of pollution, inclunding fluctuating water levels. Turkmenistan is concerned over the ecological national of the Caspian Sea, and the government is continuously taking measures to solve a range of issues in this regard.
  • Japan to upgrade quake monitoring system in Turkmenistan

    JAPAN, 2015/07/30 The earthquake monitoring system will be modernized in Ashgabat, “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper reported. The implementation of this project is envisaged in a separate paragraph of the joint statement on new partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan. The document was signed by Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
  • Turkmenistan OKs Caspian Sea protocol

    TURKMENISTAN, 2015/06/06 Turkmenistan’s parliament, the Majlis, adopted a resolution ratifying the Protocol for Protection of the Caspian Sea against Pollution from Land Based Sources and Activities. The document is a protocol to the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Caspian Sea’s Marine Environment as well known as the Tehran Convention signed in November 2003. The Tehran Convention is the initial legally binding agreement ratified by all the coastal states.
  • Turkmenistan stops using ODS

    TURKMENISTAN, 2014/09/19 The major ozone-depleting substances (ODS) were withdrawn from the use in Turkmenistan as a result of active nature conservation measures, Turkmen Nature Protection Ministry reported. The ODS include freons, which are widely used in refrigerating equipment, all kinds of chemicals, solvents and reagents for fighting fires. "Turkmenistan is working to preserve its own incomparable nature, for the rational use of natural resources, regeneration of water, land and biological resources, reduction of air pollution, fighting desertification, expanding the tree-planting areas, and the environmental advocacy," the ministry said.

    TURKMENISTAN, 2013/05/13 A decree recently signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov orders government ministries to plant 3 million trees in 2013 to transform the country into a ''blooming garden and further enrich its beautiful nature in the era of power and happiness''. RFE/RL's Turkmen Service reports that 465,000 public-sector employees, inclunding those working at schools and universities in the country, took shovels in hand on March 10 and spent the day planting 755,000 trees.
  • Caspian states discusses ecology of Caspian Sea

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2013/03/23 A regional seminar entitled 'Caspian Sea - Sustainable Development and Management' has finished its work at the Turkmen resort city of Awaza in cooperation with the International Ocean Institute (IOI), Turkmen government said on Wednesday.  The forum organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and National Enterprise for the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan is being attended by heads and specialists of ministries, agencies and the environmental institutions of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, inclunding international experts.
