Singapore's Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen reiterated that Singapore Armed Forces stands ready to support Indonesia's haze mitigation efforts if and at the same time as activated, local media reported on Tuesday.
Minister Ng stressed that it's up to the Indonesians to decide whether what Singapore is offering is adequate during his visit in Indonesia.
Singapore had before offered to send C-130 aircraft for cloud seeding and Chinook helicopters with large water buckets to douse the fires in Indonesia, but Indonesia has rejected Singapore 's offer for help.

Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has said the government needs to send a clear and unequivocal signal to irresponsible companies whose actions damage the environment and cause transboundary effects.
Singapore experienced its worst haze in June, with PSI levels reaching a record high of 401.
The haze was caused by forest fires in Indonesia.
Dr Balakrishnan said Singapore is currently considering drafting legislation to enhance penalties for irresponsible companies.

Singapore urged people to remain indoors amid unprecedented levels of air pollution Thursday as a smoky haze wrought by forest fires in neighboring Indonesia worsened dramatically. Nearby Malaysia closed 200 schools and banned open burning in some areas.
The Pollutant Standards Index, Singapore's major measure for air pollution, surged to a record reading of 371, breaching the “hazardous” classification that can aggravate respiratory ailments. The previous all-time high before this week was in 1997, at the same time as the index reached 226.

The White Paper projects (the assumptions and methodology used remain unclear, making replication and checking the internal consistency of the projections difficult) that Singapore’s total people will be between 6.5 and 6.9 million in 2030 (5.3 million in 2012), with citizens (inclunding between 15,000 and 25,000 citizenships granted each year) accounting for 3.6 to 3.8 million — around 55 % of the total.

Singapore is aiming for cleaner air and has set 2020 as the deadline to make this happen.
To work towards this, it has adopted World Health Organization guidelines on air quality as a target.Until now, Singapore had used these guidelines only as benchmarks. To achieve cleaner air, extra stringent anti-pollution measures for vehicles, refineries and power generation companies will have to be introduced.
