  • African Union merges science and education bodies

    BOTSWANA, 2016/01/13 The Africa Union has merged its science and education bodies in a move designed to improve sectoral relationships, effectiveness and efficiency. The African Ministerial Council on Science and Technology and the Conference of Ministers of Education of the African Union will presently operate as one entity. “The decision of the heads of states was as well motivated by the need to streamline ministerial conferences, limit their number and confer the power to convene them to the African Union Commission and save costs,” Dr Mahama Ouedraogo, the African Union’s chief of human resources, science and technology, told University World News.
  • Chad’s efforts to improve teaching and learning in primary and upper secondary schools

    CHAD, 2013/06/24 The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a USD15 million IDA grant that will support Chad’s efforts to improve teaching and learning in primary and upper secondary schools and to improve data collection and decision-making in the country’s education sector. The Education Sector Reform Project, presently in its second phase, will benefit over a million children in Chad, covering 10,000 teachers and 3,800 schools at the primary level. It will as well cover 30 schools and 600 teachers at the upper secondary level, with a appropriate focus on mathematics and science.
