  • Portugal’s Portucel increases investment in pulp project in Mozambique

    PORTUGAL, 2016/01/26 Portuguese pulp and paper company Portucel plans to increase investment in Mozambique from US$2.3 to US$3 billion, the company’s director in Mozambique, Pedro Moura, said. Moura, in an interview with Reuters, said the increase in investment was the result of “technological developments of equipment producers” and would increase pulp production capacity. Portucel’s forestry and industrial project for the production of paper pulp and energy in Mozambique is expected to create 7,500 direct jobs and export worth US$1 billion per year.
  • Italy supports agricultural development in Angola

    ITALY, 2015/07/22 The governments of Angola and Italy plan to sign a memorandum of considerate on agriculture, as part of a three-day visit to Luanda Italian Minister Maurizio Martina began Monday, according to Angolan news agency Angop. The Italian Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry is due Tuesday to attend the Italy-Angola Business Forum, taking place on the sidelines of the 32nd edition of the Luanda International equitable (Filda) . During his remain in Angola, Maurizio Martina is due to meet with the Minister of Trade, Rosa Pacavira and the Secretaries of National for Industry and Fisheries.

    BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, 2015/05/04 Bosnian authorities are preparing a response to EU's Food and Veterinary Office, FVO, in which they will outline how they aim to meet conditions that would open up the EU market to Bosnia's dairy farmers. The EU market remains closed to Bosnia’s dairy farmers because the country does not meet EU hygienic standards has not harmonized all the relevant laws in this sector. Bosnia’s dairy industry lost one of its biggest markets at the same time as neighbouring Croatia joined the EU in July 2013.
  • Spanish vessel allegedly illegally fishing in Argentine waters must pay 1.1 million Euros

    ARGENTINA, 2013/07/16 According to Spanish sources, even at the same time as dissenting with the sanction, the owners of the vessel Pesqueras del Bon who sent two high ranking envoys of the company to Puerto Madryn, are prepared to pay the fine so that the ‘Piscator’ can abandon Argentina as any minute at this time as possible. The Argentine government confirmed a fine of 5.3 million Pesos (approx 800.000 Euros) and another 300.000 Euros to liberate the forfeited catch on board, mostly squid, of the Spanish flagged vessel ‘Piscator’ caught last 2 July allegedly illegally operating in Argentine waters and which remains retained in Puerto Madryn.   The 72 metres long fishing vessel with its crew of 30 is docked in the Patagonian port since July 2, and crew and officers have been treated correctly and are allowed to go ashore and move around the city with not much restriction, according to Manuel Garcia Pastoriza and General Manager Carlos García from Pesqueras del Bon.

  • Mozambique chosen as business base for Portuguese firm Rioforte

    PORTUGAL, 2013/04/22 Rioforte, a holding of the Portuguese Espírito Santo group which specialises in the government of non-financial assets, has decided to make Mozambique its operational base for developing business and investments in southern Africa, the company’s president said. Manuel Fernando Espírito Santo told the Maputo-based daily Notícias that the company will instantly focus efforts on development of the Mozambique Agricultural Corporation (Mozaco), established in partnership with the Mozambican group João Ferreira dos Santos and particularly active in the agricultural sector.
