  • Nigerian Investor Sets Up $135 Million Commodities Exchange

    CHINA, 2017/09/09 A Nigerian startup is developing a new agricultural commodities exchange in Africa’s most populous country to take chance of the government’s efforts to boost farming output to reduce reliance on oil. The exchange, Integrated Produce City Ltd., will be located near the southern city of Benin, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) east of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, a site accessible to nearby growers of cocoa, palm oil, rubber and cassava, Chief Executive Officer Pat Utomi said in an interview.

  • Nigeria: Govt, States to Spend 1.8% of Budgets On Agriculture

    NIGERIA, 2017/01/17 The federal and national governments will spend less than two % of their N13.5 trillion total budgets this year on agriculture despite their publicised commitment to the sector, Daily Trust investigations have shown. Analysis of the 2017 combined spending of the federal and 30 national governments shows that they will spend N254 billion (1.8 %) on agriculture. This figure is slightly higher than the N196.3 billion (1.6 %) they spent on the sector last year. About half of these figures would be expended on running the bureaucracies of the agric ministries and their related agencies of forestry, rural development and water resources, part others.

  • Liberia: Agribusiness Expo to Highlight 5-Year Fed Activity

    SIERRA LEONE, 2016/09/17 USAID's Food and Enterprise Improvment(FED), has announced that it will conclude its five-year operation with an Agribusiness Expo. The theme of the event is, "Building a Food fasten Next in Liberia." The Expo will take place on September 13 and 14 at the Monrovia City Hall. Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai will deliver the opening remarks, the organization said in a press release. FED is funded by the United States Agency for International Improvment(USAID) under 'Feed the Next,' the U.S. government's world hunger and food security initiative active in 19 nations around the world, inclunding 12 in Africa.
