  • ICT tops priorities in Malaysia’s new budget

    MALAYSIA, 2015/12/27 The new national budget signals an acceleration of Malaysia’s digital drive, with both ICT research and improvment(R&D) and broadband provision awarded significant funding increases. While higher investment in the digital economy spells good news for the sector, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular, some stakeholders would like to see additional done to boost industry sales.     MALAYSIA, 2013/10/13 Malaysia has to produce a lot of data scientists to drive its effort to become a data management centre so as to pioneer new economic opportunities on a world scale, Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said today. He said it was the desire of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to see Malaysia not only as a consumer in the data technology sector but as well as a major player in IT development.     MALAYSIA, 2013/01/16 Eight firms have been awarded 4G spectrum to offer LTE services in Malaysia by the country’s regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Celcom Axiata, DiGi Telecommunications, Maxis Broadband, Packet One Networks, Puncak Semangat, REDtone Marketing, U Mobile and YTL Communications won their bids for an allocation in the 2.6GHz frequency. Maxis is the market leader with 12.8 million subscribers, while Celcom holds second place with 12.4 million.
