    BAHRAIN, 2017/05/29 Cracks have appeared in a Saudi-led, US-backed anti-terrorist political and military alliance days next US President Donald J. Trump ended a historic visit to Saudi Arabia. The cracks stem from Qatar’s long-standing fundamental policy differences with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates about Iran and the role of political Islam. The cracks emerged as the result of an anti-Qatar media and cyber campaign involving a spate of anti-Qatar articles in US and Gulf media; the blocking of Qatar-backed media websites and broadcasts in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt; statements by prominent former US government officials; and a recent seminar by the Washington-based Foundation for the Defense of Democracies that has long asserted that Qatar supports militant groups.

  • Oman’s Sultan Qaboos in Tehran for energy talks

    IRAN, 2013/08/28 Sultan Qaboos of Oman, the only Gulf leader to maintain good relations with Tehran, arrived in Iran Sunday for a visit focused on economic and diplomatic issues, Iranian authorities said. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi said “the major focus of the negotiations is boosting energy and economic cooperation”. During the two-day visit, talks will as well look into “regional and international topics, particularly Egypt and Syria,” Araqchi said in comments reported by official news agency IRNA.

    OMAN, 2012/12/22 Oman will introduce quality Omanisation (Nationalisation of workforce) and make employment terms at the private sector attractive for the national manpower, according to the Manpower Minister, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bakri. Speaking during a conference with Oman’s Labour Union officials on Sunday, the Manpower Minister as well said that stringent steps would be taken to intensify labour inspection for the better working environment for the private sector employees. “We are looking at achieving additional stability at the workplace,” he added.
