  • Malaysia Exports contraction moderates in November,

    MALAYSIA, 2016/01/17 Exports in USD terms fell 15.5% in annual terms in November, following the 18.4% contraction tallied in October. The contraction was additional severe than analysts had expected and marks the lowest figure in nine months. The result marks 14 consecutive months of contraction, as world request for key Malaysian exports dwindles, and the MYR loses ground against the USD. Meanwhile, imports declined 16.5% in November, which was a less severe contraction than the 20.8% fall recorded in the previous month. The regional organization was founded in 1967 by its 10 member states -- Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. An ASEAN community is expected to take shape by the end of this year, it will be the initial sub-regional community in Asia. "China-ASEAN relations are facing new opportunities [...] at this new starting point," Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told a press briefing Tuesday.

It is the fourth bilateral conference between the two leaders since Xi made a national visit to Malaysia in October 2013. Next their talks in Kuala Lumpur, Xi and Najib announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

  • Malaysia will on Friday release February figures for imports

    MALAYSIA, 2014/04/07 Malaysia will on Friday release February figures for imports, exports and trade balance, highlighting a light day for Asia-Pacific economic activity. Imports were worth 57.6 billion ringgit in January, while exports were at 63.9 billion ringgit for a trade surplus of 6.3 billion ringgit. The Philippines will see March numbers for consumer prices and February figures for producer prices. CPI is expected to rise 0.2 % on month and 4.2 % on year next a flat monthly reading and an increase of 4.0 % on year in February. PPI was up 0.6 % on month and 0.1 % on year in January.

    MALAYSIA, 2013/03/12  Malaysia said Monday its export activity rebounded 3.5 % in January from a dip a month formerly as request from neighbors and the giant Chinese market picked up. January exports were valued at 56.99 billion ringgit (US$18.37 billion), up 3.5 % year-on-year, the trade ministry said in a statement. Imports rose 16 % to 53.72 billion ringgit.
