  • Macau mission to Brazil promotes the territory as a platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries

    MACAU, 2016/05/04 A Macau economic mission is taking part in São Paulo in APAS 2016, an international trade equitable for the supermarket sector organised by the Paulista Association of Supermarkets, from 2 to 5 May, according to official data. The delegation, organised by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), will meet with entrepreneurs and institutions topromote the territory as a business platform with Portuguese-speaking nations.
  • Mozambique and Portugal discuss freer movement of people

    PORTUGAL, 2015/07/18 The easier movement of people between Mozambique and Portugal was discussed Thursday in Lisbon during a meeting between Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho and the President of Mozambique, according to official information. The statement issued after the meeting held at the São Bento Palace, the Prime Minister’s official residence, said the idea was to facilitate the movement of students, entrepreneurs and businesspeople, increasing trade and encouraging educational exchange. However, the statement said, the model was not yet defined because, as Portugal is part of the Schengen area, there are general rules that cannot be changed by bilateral agreements.

    CHINA, 2015/05/14 Trade between China and the Portuguese language nations fell 25.36 % year-on-year to US$21.733 billion in the initial quarter of the year, indicate figures from the Chinese Customs Government released in Macau.     ANGOLA, 2014/02/13 Portugal’s balance of trade surplus with Angola fell by 60 % in 2013 to 480 million euros, a year next posting a surplus of 1.209 billion euros, according to official figures.     CHINA, 2013/10/04 The increased interest of the Chinese in the Portuguese economy is expected to continue thus opening up Portuguese-speaking markets to China and allowing the deficit-ridden European country to have access to finance, researcher Loro Horta said in a recent study. Entitled “China’s Southern European Spending Spree,” the article published the Diplomat magazine noted that China has bought US$1.3 billion in Portuguese national deficit and created a US$1 billion fund to support investment projects between China and the Portuguese-speaking nations. With Portugal experiencing a prolonged economic crisis and surviving with funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Union and the European Central Bank (ECB), China “is taking chance of the opportunities offered by the crisis in Portugal – and in other southern European nations like Spain and Greece,” the article said.

In December Portuguese exports to the Brazilian market again passed the US$100 million mark, standing at US$101.2 million, slightly below the US$103 million recorded in December 2011.
