Destinations worldwide welcomed 598 million international tourists in the initial six months of 2017, some 36 million additional than in the same period of 2016. At 6%, increase was well above the trend of recent years, making the current January-June period the strongest half-year since 2010.
Visitor numbers reported by destinations around the world reflect strong request for international travel in the initial half of 2017, according to the new UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. Worldwide, international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) increased by 6% compared to the same six-month period last year, well above the sustained and consistent trend of 4% or higher increase since 2010. This represents the strongest half-year in seven years.

Russia’s LUKOIL company has launched the major production and process facilities at its South-West Gissar project in Uzbekistan, said the message posted on the company’s website.
These include a gas treatment plant with the annual rated capacity of 4.4 billion cubic meters, a gas pretreatment unit and four gas-gathering stations.

The delegation of Uzbek General Prosecutor's Office paid a working visit to Astana at the invitation of their Kazakh colleagues, according to the website of Uzbek General Prosecutor's Office.
During the visit, Uzbek side participated in an international seminar on "Investigating International Financial Crimes," conducted with the support of the OSCE Program Office in Astana and the US Embassy in Kazakhstan.

National Energy-Saving Company (NEC) is being created in Uzbekistan in accordance with the presidential decree “On measures for further introduction of modern energy-efficient and energy-saving technologies”.
Local media reported that the NEC is being created “for introduction of modern energy-efficient and energy-saving technologies in the national bodies and organizations, inclunding for ensuring rational consumption of the energy resources.”
The company’s tasks will include monitoring the efficiency of the energy consumption in Uzbek government agencies and organizations, preparation of proposals and introduction of the modern energy-efficient and energy-saving technologies, execution of the technical, technological, economic and other measures aimed at the reduction of the consumed energy resources’ volume.

Uzbekistan became a member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on August 24, according to the data published on IRENA’s official Twitter account.
The membership in the agency is open to the states which are members of the United Nations and to regional intergovernmental economic integration organizations.

The prices for domestic rubbish removal will increase in Tashkent by 9.4 % starting from September 1, Uzbekistan’s Makhsustrans LLC reported.
The company has set the cost of rubbish removal at 3,500 soums for each person per month compared to the current 3,200 soums.

The reason for better Uzbek-Kyrgyz trade relations is Uzbekistan’s new president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, said Bruce Pannier, a Central Asia expert.
