Fiji: Fiji Airways to hit milestone this year

Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, is pleased to announce that it will hit a milestone this year.

The airline will surpass one million international passengers this schedule year for the initial time in its 63-year history.

To celebrate this feat, on December 20, one lucky passenger on a Fiji Airways flight from Nadi will be awarded a one-millionth passenger commemoration souvenir, along with a round-trip ticket to the destination of his or her choice.

Stefan Pichler, Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO, states, “We’re delighted to hit the one-millionth passenger mark for the initial time ever for Fiji Airways’ international flights. It’s a great reflection of the hard work done by our team to increase passenger numbers and revenue. Next year will be even better, as we will offer nearly 1.4 million seats on Fiji Airways; so, at our current load factor of around 85%, we will be able to accommodate around 1.3 million guests on our flights to and from Fiji.”

Mr. Pichler continues, “This news of course means that 2014 will see the highest number of international passengers flown in our history. It will as well be the year with the highest load factor in our history and certainly a stellar year for the best ever profit in our history. This is good news for all of our staff, our shareholders, our customers, and for the Fijian people.”

The new aircraft, which made the long journey to its new home from Toulouse, France, is in line with the National Airline’s Five-Year-Masterplan, to increase its fleet size by 25% and expand relevant Fiji Link capacity by 12.3% in the domestic market.     2014/06/05 A NEW 67-kilowatt solar farm was launched in Vuda, Lautoka, yesterday, marking an extra milestone in renewable energy initiatives in the country. Owned by Total (Fiji) Limited, the solar farm will supply 100megawatts of electricity each hour for a year. Company managing director Sylvian Quemeneur said the pilot project was designed to sustain Total (Fiji) Ltd's Vuda plant. "The pilot project has been ongoing for one year so the cost of the solar panels is not relevant from presently on and we cannot reveal from presently on how much the costs are," he said. "As a pilot, we were most interested to see how we can push ahead with this technology in Fiji particularly in Vuda because we have the perfect spot to install these solar panels. It is definitely our commitment to better energy.
